Fonds consists of records created and/or accumulated by Lou Collins. Fonds focuses on records from Collins' civic life and involvement in the heritage community, as well as his activities as a local historian, tour guide, lecturer and collector. Fonds does not include a significant amount of material from Collins' career as an educator in the Halifax public school system. However, fonds does include material from Collins' elementary and high school education, as well as material Collins and his wife collected through their interest in local history. CR30

Fonds consists of records created or accumulated by the District Five Community Development Association (1993-1996) and the later Greater Chebucto Community Development Association (1996-2003). Fonds includes correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, business plans, maps, photographs, brochures, grant applications, and newsletters. The major focus of the GCCDA was the development of the Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park. A large proportion of the files relate to this unfinished project which lasted from 1997 to 2003. , It was usually referred to the Pennant Point Park development project in the Association's records. For most of the years the GCCDA was operating Alana Paon, the project manager, was the driving force and many of the records were created by, or relate, to her. CR28

Jackie Barkley fonds

Fonds consists of of records created or compiled by Jackie Barkley through her study of and involvement in social issues and organizations, especially those dealing with anti-racism, municipal action, anti-poverty, child care and women’s issues. The records document social struggles for better day care, education and strengthening the black community in the Halifax Region. Barkley's involvment organizing Peace in Biafra Day in 1969, and with the Municipal Action Committee, the Nova Scotia Coalition Against the KKK, and Parents for a Model School at St. Joseph's - Alexander McKay School are particularly well documented. Records also document her research and work as a social worker and provide related documentation from groups including: the Black United Front, Metro Coalition for a Non-Racist Society, Housing for People Coalition, Anti-Poverty Network, and Community Advocates for Rights with Responsibilities among others. Collection consists of nine framed sketches of Halifax historic landmarks, done by Nancy Stevens from historic photographs as a Centennial Collection. The Centennial Collection was commissioned by Seaman Cross Ltd. and mass-produced to celebrate Canada's Centennial. Seaman Cross was an office furniture supply company owned by Bill Kitchen, a close family friend of Stevens. This set was given to Hedley G. Ivany to acknowledge his service as City of Halifax Ward 2 Alderman, 1966-1971. Collection also includes a 1971 cartoon by Chronicle Herald cartoonist Bob Chambers (CR 41.10). Collection consists of photographs and post-cards of Nova Scotia Light and Power electric trams, Trailways charter buses and Dartmouth Transit and Halifax Transit buses; transit maps, tickets and transfers. Photos show trams in downtown Halifax in 1959 and 1968; Trailways Starliner buses at the Commission St. garage, 1978; Dartmouth Transit buses at the Dartmouth Mall loop, as well as a bus-stop sign, 1978; and buses at the Halifax Transit garage on Young St., and at Mumford terminal with Simpson's in background, 1978. Post cards show the last Birney trolley car in Halifax, 1948; the first articulated bus built in Canada used on the Metro Transit #20 Glen Forest run, 1992; NSLP trolley coach outside the CNR railway station in 1967, and a trolley car on Barrington St. at Grand Parade, ca. 1910. There are explanations on the backs of some of the post-cards.Bus Route maps are from Dartmouth Transit, which includes the ferry schedule (197?),and Halifax Transit (1971 and 1978). Tickets are from Nova Scotia Light and Power, Halifax Transit and the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission; transfers are from Dartmouth Transit, Halifax Transit and Metro Transit. Fonds consists of records of the Halifax Women's Voluntary Services documenting their Centre's operations, liaison with other social agencies in Halifax, Ottawa and England, and their volunteers. Registration cards give details about the women who volunteered their time, and the Requisition forms and Permanent Placement register give details on the type of work they did in agencies such as the Ajax Club, Blood Donor Clinics, Canadian Legion Hostels and Library, the Central Magazine Exchange, the Children's Hospital, the Concert Guild, Jost Mission, Lady Ironside Knitting, Navy League Recreation Centre, North End Services Canteen, NS College of Art, Protestant Orphanage, Salvation Army, Red Cross, YMCA, and YWCA.
