Lou Collins fonds

Fonds consists of records created and/or accumulated by Lou Collins. Fonds focuses on records from Collins' civic life and involvement in the heritage community, as well as his activities as a local historian, tour guide, lecturer and collector. Fonds does not include a significant amount of material from Collins' career as an educator in the Halifax public school system. However, fonds does include material from Collins' elementary and high school education, as well as material Collins and his wife collected through their interest in local history. CR30
Major Lewis DeMone photos of Halifax

Collection consists of a photo album of images of Halifax landmarks taken in 1984, as well as comparative panoramic views taken from Citadel Hill in 1948, 1968 and 1978. Landmarks include the Town Clock, Memorial Tower (Dingle), Public Gardens bandstand, fountains and bridges, Halifax Waterfront, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Barrington Street, Barrington Place, Cogswell Interchange, St. Matthew's Church, World Trade and Convention Centre, bank towers, Chateau Halifax, Scotia Square, Metro Centre, Robie St. and Windsor St. exchange, and Armdale Yacht Club. Album also contains 11 black and white oblique Royal Canadian Air Force aerial images of military sites during World War Two. Images show Halifax Harbour, Halifax Citadel, Bedford Basin with military convoys, Fort Ogilvie in Point Pleasant Park, Devil's Battery at Hartlen Point, Fort McNutt in the Shelburne Harbour, [Osborne Head] and [Duncan's Cove - Chebucto Head], and other military fortifications along a coastline, either in Nova Scotia or England. Some show batteries under construction. Many are marked "Secret" on back. CR63

Fonds consists of scrapbooks, photographs, minutes, and correspondence with an adopted family in England during and following the Second World War. The family was suggested to the Margaret Rose Friendship Club by the Red Cross. The scrapbooks are handwritten accounts of the group's activities and include member lists, financials, photographs, and decorations from contemporary resources. CR23
Mayor Robert MacIlreith collection

Collection consists of two portraits of Mayor Robert MacIlreith, two paintings by Gladys Clarke MacIlreith, and two hand-tinted photographs. The portraits include one of MacIlreith wearing the City of Halifax mayor's chain of office [1905-1908]; and one of McIlreith wearing business attire, 1906. There are two framed paintings done by the mayor's wife, Gladys Clarke MacIlreith: one of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and Halifax Harbour, 1905; the other of Memorial Tower, Northwest Arm, 1927. The framed hand-tinted photographs include one looking over the NorthWest Arm, probably from Deadman's Island or Sir Sandford Fleming Park. A boat club is visible across the water - possibly Jubilee Boat Club. CR68
