Henry Youle Hind

Consists of draft chapters of a manuscript entitled "Fisheries of British North America", 1877, including some related correspondence and research notes. Also includes two files of notes concerning the early townships of Falmouth, Horton, Cornwallis and Newport, and Indians of Nova Scotia; scrapbook of newspaper clippings compiled by Hind which include several printed letters he wrote to Nova Scotian newspapers, 1870-1871, mostly regarding King's College, Windsor. There are also some printed letters on the same subject from professors Henry How, F.C. Sumichrast, and others, and a few clippings pertaining to Hind's investigation of the Laurentian system of rocks in Nova Scotia; seven miscellaneous letters to and from Hind, 1877-1905, which include mention of his works, geological theories, early land grants in Windsor, and the proposed railway in Nova Scotia, 1870s; and two letters from his brother, painter William G.R. Ellen Wainwright

Consists of two photograph albums compiled by Ellen (O'Brien) Wainwright, one containing photographs depicting scenes of Edgehill School for Girls, Windsor, including students, school activities and sports events (1916-1917). The other album depicts military personnel during World War I, celebrations including the Dominion Day parade (1918), house decorated for Armistice Day (1919), military camp at Fort Edward, Windsor (1918), sports and recreation at Edgehill, Windsor, and Evangeline Beach, Kings County, and other scenes in Hants County. Consists of records primarily documenting Rev. Wainwright's historical research and his ministerial activities. Includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, research notes, extracts of church records, papers by Wainwright and others, draft manuscripts, prayer and sermon notes, pamphlets and other printed material, scrapbook, and memoirs of Wainwright's student days at Baddeck (1927). Correspondence includes letters to and from Wainwright, mainly concerning his genealogical research as well as personal, financial, and parish affairs. Includes historical information on the Diocese of Nova Scotia, Anglican ministers, Aylesford, Seaforth, St. Mary's Church (Auburn), early settlement at Cape Breton, and the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. Several family surnames, primarily from Colchester, Lunenburg and Annapolis counties, are also represented and include: Conrad (Conrod), Jacques, Gaetz and Turple. Fonds also contains correspondence to Mabel Wainwright, family records including correspondence, wills and legal documents concerning A.H. Wainwright and Charles Evan Wainwright, original and typescript of the diary of Frederick Godfrey Wainwright (1840-1907) documenting his voyage from Halifax to Great Britain in 1860, and items relating to Charles Inglis, 1823-1848, which include letters from his father, John Inglis, Bishop of Nova Scotia. Consists of records documenting Flavin's political and personal activities, including general files, 1924-1937, mostly concerning the provincial election in 1928 and Conservative Party organization; three scrapbooks documenting the 1925 and 1926 federal elections, Maritime Rights movement, and 1928 provincial election; diaries, 1933, 1935; notebooks kept while Flavin was a law student, ca. 1920; pamphlets; correspondence; and other miscellaneous items. Photographs also found among the textual records. Also includes correspondence and other material relating to the production of the Archdiocese of Halifax newspaper, The Halifax Gazette. H.B. Wainwright

Consists of five bound transcripts of diaries and stories compiled by H.B. Wainwright. Three of the transcripts were from original manuscripts created by his relatives and contain Wainwright's annotated notes. Includes the diary of his uncle Frederick G. Wainwright (1840-1907), Halifax, 1892, with notes by both H.B. Wainwright and Evan Perot Wainwright; transcript entitled "Powie's Journal", an account of his cousin, Muriel ("Powie") Gray Wainwright's (1874-1949) school days in England, 1888-1893; and "Wreck of the Capulet", recollections of Wainwright's aunt, Susan G.S. Wainwright (1860-1921), which occured at Gull Island, St. Mary's Bay, Nfld. en route to England in 1896. Also includes: "Not So Reverend", humourous stories pertaining to the Anglican church in Nova Scotia and clergymen; "True Clerical Experiences," originally written by Rev. Canon W.S.H. Morris; "Recollections of a Fuller brush salesman" written by Wainwright regarding his early work experiences; and narrative of a canoe trip from Halifax to Musquodoboit Harbour by Evan Perot Wainwright. The books contain much information relating to the appointment of local officials and the building of roads, in addition to the finding of true bill or no bill which determined whether a criminal case proceeded to trial at the Quarter Sessions or Supreme Court. Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by the Nova Scotia Council and its predecessor body (called the Provincial Council) in its headquarters in Halifax. Includes minutes of annual meetings with annual reports, 1915-1980 (incomplete); minutes of meetings of the provincial executive committee (includes officers' reports) 1954-1981; constitutions, by-laws, and general regulations followed by the provincial council, 1913-1970; printed histories by such members as R.V. Harris and Col. E. W. Mingo, 1940-1959; correspondence of the provincial commissioner, 1941-1967; records of services at first aid stations during the war, 1941-1943; award and examination certificates,1914-1979; newspaper clippings, 1940-1980; in-house newsletters and pamphlets, 1948-1997 and commissioned photographs, 1925-1977. Also includes a scrapbook compiled by member Florence Longard, 1945-1970, containing clippings and memorabilia, and a case book, 1938-1949, a daily record of medical treatment provided at special events such as exhibitions and Halifax Natal Day. The general correspondence of the provincial commissioner, 1917-1918, contains reports on conditions during the Halifax Explosion. Some of the nursing division correspondence includes experiences of nurses working overseas during World War II. The photographs depict of a wide variety of SJA activities including first aid classes and demonstrations, parades, exhibitions, fairs, inspections, investiture services, awards' ceremonies and providing assistance during the Springhill Mine Disaster in 1958.
