University of King's College Alexandra Society Fonds

The records in the fonds were created, received, or used by the Alexandra Society. These records were stored in various spaces across the King’s College campus and at society member’s homes before being donated to or acquired by the University of King’s College Archives. The oldest records (before the turn of the century) were found in storage in the Arts and Administration building by Assistant Librarian Patricia Chalmers and Dr. Henry Roper. Most other records slowly accumulated as the various Alexandra Society branches folded. The primary activities of the Alexandra Society were to raise money for scholarships (for women and Anglican students) and the general well-being of King’s College. The records cover the Alexandra Society’s finances, meeting minutes, and general comraderie. There are many photographs that document fundraising efforts. Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot's Flying Log Book of LAC Sayre, G.T.

Geoffrey T. Sayre, also known as LAC Sayre, was born on June 12, 1916, in Saint John, NB. During World War II, he fought for his country as an Air Force Pilot from 1939 to 1945. After the war, he worked at F.E. Sayre Ltd. and Pollett River Lumber Co., which were owned by his family. Later on, he dedicated his life to the town of Rothesay, where he served as the first volunteer firefighter. He helped in forming the Rothesay Fire Department and eventually retired as its chief. He also served as Councilor and Mayor of Rothesay and created the Rothesay Regional Police Force.LAC Sayre's Pilot's Flying Log Book documents his service with #3 EFTS in London, Ontario, #113 Bomber Sqn in Yarmouth, NS, and #31 General Reconnaissance School in PEI. He flew Hudson's, Anson's, Harvard's, and Yale's from July 1941 to December 1942.LAC Sayre's Logbook also contains his flying assessments, RCAF application for enlistment, and his discharge certificate. This is a spiral-bound photocopy that contains two pictures of planes on the inside cover. One is black and white, and the other is in color. The second picture has accompanying information about the photograph. The item includes a certification for the Anson Aircraft and a certification of the pilot's reliability. The document contains information about the make and model of the plane flown, the pilot's name, the number of hours flown, exercises and drills recorded in numerical format, courses run, locational information of training received, monthly flying totals, ASR (Submarine Rescue Vessel) searches, bombings, and enemy sightings. It also includes information on duties at new postings such as exercises, instructional duties, and hours flown. This document also includes a record of service and a record of aircraft flown. Royal Canadian Air Force Observer's and Air Gunners Flying Log Book of Sgt. Levitin, Nathan

Sergeant Levitin was a navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He began his training at #5 Air Observer School in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 5th, 1941, and completed it on May 27th, 1941. Then, he went to #4 Bomber and Gunnery School in Fingal, Ontario for his Air Observer Training, which he completed on May 27th, 1941. On June 8th, 1941, he reported to #1 Air Navigation School in Rivers, Manitoba for advanced training on the Avro Anson, which he completed on July 7th, 1941. On July 20th, 1941, he reported for duty at his first posting at 116 Bomber Squadron at RCNAS Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Sergeant Levitin flew on Catalina and Ventura aircraft, doing transport and submarine patrols as a navigator. In April 1943, he was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and transferred to #4 Operational Training Unit in Alness, Scotland. On March 8th, 1943, he was sent to the Royal Air Force 222 Group in Ceylon. Flight Lieutenant Nathan Levitin, a navigator from Ottawa, arrived in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in December 1943 as the only RCAF crewman of a Catalina. No. 222 Group was a group of the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. It was formed on September 1st, 1941, based in Ceylon, and had squadrons stationed around the Indian Ocean. The group undertook long-range bombing and mine-laying operations that took them as far as Sumatra and Singapore. The group was disbanded on October 15th, 1945, becoming Air Headquarters Ceylon (AHQ Ceylon). Sergeant Levitin reported for duty at #413 Photo Squadron in Rockcliffe, Ontario, on April 25th, 1947. He flew on Ansons, Mitchells, Norsemen, and Canso aircraft until October 3rd, 1949, at which time Flight Lieutenant Levitin was posted to #4 Staff Navigation Instructor/Navigator school in Summerside, PEI, and then transferred to #2 Air Navigation School in Summerside, flying on Dakotas until July 30th, 1953 SAM.2014.0024.001
RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) Pilot’s Flying Logbook of LAC A.E Field

This logbook belonged to L.A.C. Fields and documents his flying time with 423 Squadron. Most of the entries detail his flights on Anson and Sunderland planes. The logbook also includes his certification for the Pilot's badge, a flight assessment from 1942, a copy of a speech by Dwight D. Eisenhower, and a photo of a submarine labeled "The Beaten Foe". 2013.0044.001
