Sub-series forms part of history and heritage activities series of the Helen Jennex fonds and consists of original illustrations of historical Eastern Shore tools and fishing techniques. The illustrations have captions and were probably used in displays put on by Helen Jennex and/or other members of the Marine Highway Historical Society and Fisherman’s House Museum. Sub-series also includes two original watercolours, one of Devil’s Oven, Clam Harbour, and one of Clam Harbour Beach. The watercolours are signed “W.R. Symons” and are dated to 1958. Collection consists of copies of a deed, a will, and a property record related to people and places along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, accumulated by the Eastern Shore Archives. Records were created in 1982. Collection includes the 1883 will of Isaac Webber Sr. of Lakeville, an 1878 deed recording Isaac Webber’s purchase from Charlotte Garrott and Eve Parker of a parcel of land in Lakeville, and an 1850 document recording Isaac Webber’s purchase of a parcel of land between Ship Harbour and Clam Harbour. Fonds consists of financial records belonging to William Gaetz including insurance papers, receipts, correspondence, documents related to the estate of Josephine Gaetz, and military pension information. Also included are records related to Gaetz’s time spent serving in WWI, correspondence with soldiers during WWII, records related to Gaetz’s membership in the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Musquodoboit Harbour United Church for which Gaetz acted as treasurer. Church records include financial papers and correspondence, account books, receipts, religious education material, meeting minutes, photographs, insurance documents, and other material. Fonds also includes records pertaining to electoral districts and voters as Gaetz was one of the revisors of the voter lists for his district. In addition, fonds includes lists of officers of the Musquodoboit Harbour Volunteer Fire Department and other material. Accession number 2012.001

Series forms part of the Eastern Shore District High School fonds and consists of essays written by students pertaining to the history of various churches and cemeteries along the Eastern Shore. Series includes information pertaining to St. Anselm’s cemetery and Christ Church Cemetery in Chezzetcook, Clam Harbour Graveyard, the history of St. Paul’s Church in Mushaboom, St. George’s Cemetery and Ostrea Lake Anglican Church, the East Petpeswick Catholic graveyard, St. Mark’s Church in Porters Lake, and St. James Cemetery in Upper Lakeville. Some cemetery papers include lists of those who are buried there, family background information such as origin of names, lists of how many people died in given years, and hand drawn maps.

Series forms part of the Laura F. Stoddard family fonds and consists of a blank pledge card for a Members Associate Pledge likely for the Christian Endeavour Society as well as a certificate stating that William E. Stoddard enlisted in the White Ribbon Army of the N.S.S.S. Association in 1902 at the Sabbath School of the Union Church in Owl’s Head and pledged to abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and profanity. There is also a certificate presented to Robert Burns Williams by the Presbyterian Church of Canada for the memorizing of scripture in 1914 and one presented to Florence Etta Stoddard for reciting the catechism in 1907. Series also includes the communion roll of the Presbyterian Church at Clam Harbour which lists the names of both male and female voters, a pamphlet on the method of taking the vote on church union, and a number of used voter ballots from the vote on church union. There is also one bulletin from the First Baptist Church in Chanston Illinois which mentions a Miss Helen Fisher who attended the Nova Scotia Provincial Normal College. Accession number: 2013.010

Series is part of the Laura F. Stoddard family fonds and consists of one business card for Pringle & London, suppliers of decorative leaded glass including ecclesiastical stained glass and memorial windows as well as importers of antique, cathedral and opal glass. They were located in Toronto and may have been employed by Judge Frederick Montye ‘Monty’ Morson (1853-1944) to supply a new window for the Clam Harbour United Church. Judge Morson stayed at the Stoddard Hotel in Clam Harbour every summer for thirty years and donated a memorial window to the church. Series also includes one black and white photograph of Judge Morson c. 1936. Accession number: 2013.010

Series forms part of the Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of genealogical research and records pertaining to various Eastern Shore families. The families who feature most prominently are the Stoddards and Ritceys (Henrici), however, the Shellnut, Eisan, Anderson, Siteman, Gaetz (Gates), Newcomb, Bayers, Robson, MacEachern, Blaxland. Records appear primarily the result of research conducted by Katherine Stoddard, however, some records note that documents were copied by Annabel Siteman Ells and may have been intended for Katherine’s mother, Eva, who may also have conducted genealogical research. Series also includes an incomplete copy of A Brief History of the Stoddards of Halifax County written by Elsie Florence Stoddard. Records include information on many pioneer families on the Eastern Shore, including the families of Thomas Stoddard, Leonard and Martin Gaetz, and Henry Seidman (Seidemann) as well as information on the origins of the Ritcey family beginning with Johannis Christophorus Henrici. Records include handwritten information, copies of information from various sources including vital statistics and newspapers, and books in which Katherine Stoddard recorded information about her own family, one of which features a drawing of a map that shows various landowners around Clam Harbour and Owl’s Head.
