Driver is Ervine Boutilier; Gordon Hartlen is standing on the running board; on the back is Ralph Heffler and Tommy Burke (LtoR). They are wearing the silver helmets given after 25 years of volunteer service with the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department. 103-8-1.4

Item consists of a painted portrait of William Caldwell, the first mayor of Halifax, Nova Scotia to be elected directly by citizens. Mayors from 1841-1850 were selected by aldermen and common councillors from among themselves. The painting is framed in a gold-painted wooden frame. A metal plaque on the frame reads: "William Caldwell / The First Mayor of Halifax / Elected by the Citizens - / Civic year October 1850 / to October 1851."
