The fonds includes marine protests for various vessels, both sailing and steam ships, ranging in date from 1899 to 1909. Some protests are incomplete and from unknown vessels. Also included are various papers--mostly from the Maritime Board of Trade--from Creed's business activities. MS-2-241

Item is a list of vessels taken at Machias and and Penobscot, listed by name and type. The Penobscot Expedition was a 26-day raid led by Sir John Sherbrooke on Hampden, Bangor and Machias, resulting in the British occupation of Castine for the remainder of the War of 1812. The tarriff dutries obtained there, called the Castine Fund, was used to establish Dalhousie University. MS-2-222, SF Box 31, Folder 17

The Shipping Reference Collection incorporates virtually all miscellanous shipping records and reference material that were accessioned as part of "MS-8-Ref." A large portion of the collection consists of reference files on various vessels and shipping lines. A card-catalogue index known as "Master and Mates" provides references to microfilmed vessel papers, trade records, registers, and other related materials. The collection also includes photographs, slides, and published materials such as the Lloyd's Register of Ships. Collection
The accession contains index cards originally stored in 10 small plastic boxes and 1 long cardboard box. The cards were created by Trevor Bebb and contain entries from various shipping registers. The cards describe vessels, captains, and sailors. The accession also contains two oversized ledgers from the nineteenth century and several manuscript sheets of poetry. One plastic box was empty when it entered the archives. MS-4-177.2013-053
