Series consists of research and reference files created and maintained by Lynn Jones. The files consist primarily of news clippings and magazine articles, with some pamphlets, brochures and related ephemera. The files are divided into 52 subseries by theme/subject. The themes represent the width and breadth of Lynn Jones's interests, from the local African-Nova Scotian community in Truro, to race/racism in Halifax and Canada, to international political issues affecting African and diasporic communities. 2016.002.1, Series 3
Series consists of material collected by Lynn Jones relating to her brother, Burnley Allan "Rocky" Jones; and it is divided into four subseries. Rocky was a prominent African-Nova Scotian lawyer and political activist. The series documents his career as a lawyer, and as a politician (with material from his run for the Provincial NDP in 1980), his activism (with materials relating to the Black Panthers, the Black United Front, and other topics), and his personal life (including material relating to his 1993 wedding). The subseries consists of 16 files, which are split into two major groups, the first are newspaper clippings documenting major events affecting the Black/African-Canadian community in Nova Scotia (and sometimes Canada more broadly). These files have been sorted by date, ranging from the early 1970s to 2016 (the dates of some are unknown). The second half of the subseries consists of material relating to events, programs, politics, groups of interest to the African Canadian community in Nova Scotia. The materials in that part of the subseries contain articles, magazine clippings, sporting programs, church service programs, and other documents. Fonds consists of material relating to the life and accomplishments of Lynn Jones, members of her family and community, and as well as material collected by her that documents over 50 years of African-Nova Scotian, African, and African Diaspora heritage and history. The Collection documents Lynn's family, her own achievements (Lynn's candidacy for the NDP, union service, election observer work in South Africa, Canadian Public Service career, and involvement with the Black Working Group), and those of her brother Rocky. The Collection also documents local, national, and international people, history and issues through a substantive collection of news clippings, pamphlets, brochures, posters, and other materials. These record local communities (especially in Truro, Nova Scotia), local events, struggles against racism locally, nationally, and internationally, and Black community organizations such as the Black Working Group set up to advise Human Resources and Development Canada on how to work with the African-Canadian community.
