Betty Peterson

Fonds consists of records documenting Betty Peterson's personal relationships, volunteer activities and interests in peace and social justice issues in Nova Scotia and internationally. The records are organized into four groups, the first consisting of files documenting her activities from 1980-1993, the second her activities from 1994-2004, and the third her activities from 2004-2013, with some overlapping of dates. The fourth group consists of Peterson’s personal correspondence and biographical files 1951-2011. Records in the first 3 groups are arranged by subject, by either the name of an organization (e.g. Voice of Women for Peace), or a cause (e.g. aboriginal rights). The personal correspondence files are arranged by year or by correspondent. Starting in 1977 these files also include annual calendars with brief notes on activities. Fonds includes a large amount of published research and resource material on a given issue (e.g. newspaper clippings, periodicals, and newsletters), but also contains Peterson's notes, memoirs and diaries with comments and recollections, as well as correspondence (incoming and outgoing), memoranda, speeches and articles, minutes of meetings, briefs, reports, published articles about her, transcripts of interviews she gave, and photographs. Consists of newspaper and magazine clippings of her published articles; correspondence with editors, CBC producers, fans, and organizations with whom she volunteered; manuscripts of unpublished articles; radio and television scripts; reports and correspondence from NS Litter Abatement Task Force; research files on doctors on the Titanic (ship), the exploitation of disabled artists, and Helen McCully, among others; diaries and daybooks; pay receipts for freelance work; speeches given; resumes; a copy of her book “Amazing Medical Stories” co-authored with Dr. George Burden; correspondence with her brother Anthony (Tony) Metie who died of AIDS in 1986; and news clippings about Dorothy. Harry and Rachel Morton

Consists of textual records, photographs, postcards, a land survey plan and one object. The contents document the history of the King, Lovett, Morton, Pallen, Stafford, Wainwright, and Wiswell families in Nova Scotia. It includes extensive correspondence, particularly during the Second World War while Harry Morton was serving in the Canadian Navy, as well as while he was studying medicine in London, England, in the 1930s. The correspondence also includes letters from Rachel Wainwright's time at St. Leonard's School in St. Andrew's, Scotland, with related documents and photographs. Another significant item in the fonds is the C.F. Longley scrapbook, which contains images of Halifax during the South African War and in the aftermath of the Halifax Explosion, as well as many buildings, homes, and public spaces in Halifax and Nova Scotia in general. 2005-004
Cora Greenaway

Fonds consists of approximately 7800 images of painted murals, border designs, simulated marbling and other decorative elements on walls, floors, ceilings and doors in private homes and public buildings in Nova Scotia, with some examples from New Brunswick; correspondence with home owners, publishers and historical societies; research notes; manuscripts and published articles; and manuscript versions of her book Painted Dreams. Fonds also includes her CBC Radio scripts, videos of her 1993 and 1997 lectures on decorative painting and Maud Lewis, founding documents and early publications from the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, photographs and some correspondence of her childhood in Indonesia and the Netherlands; and photographs and news clippings about her husband Major Bill Greenaway, MC. The records document the unique 19th century decorative artworks Dr. Greenaway discovered and her role in the preservation of historic architecture in the province.

Consists of Payzant's correspondence, research files, original and reproduced documents, photographs, drafts and final copies of her publications, along with speeches and addresses. The contents provide evidence of her interest in family and local history, her work as a contributing writer for a number of publications including her work on the Halifax-Dartmouth Ferries, an outline of a biography of Evelyn Richardson, and genealogical research that she undertook for other people. Also includes correspondence, original and reproduced documents, diaries, and speeches belonging to her mother, Frances Murray. These relate to Frances Murray’s activities with local clubs in Dartmouth; her interest in poetry, drama, music, and Dartmouth history; and the activities of her children. Janet Kitz

Consists of material created and accumulated by Janet Kitz in preparation for the publication of her books on the Halifax Harbour Explosion of 1917. Includes photographs by Gauvin and Gentzell of the north end of Halifax after the explosion, as well as research material relating to survivors of the explosion. The research materials consist of tape recorded interviews of survivors of the event, interview transcripts and photographs and slides of those who were interviewed. 1992-359
Nancy Forrest

Consists of materials created or compiled by Nancy Forrest relating to the genealogies of the Duff, Fairbanks, Johnstone, Prescott, Thomas, and Forrest families in Nova Scotia. There is also information about her grandfather, Rev. John Forrest, who was the third President of Dalhousie University. The contents include family photographs, daguerrotypes and albums, originals and transcriptions of correspondence, scrapbooks, watercolours that are believed to have been created by Nancy Forrest's sister, some print items and two objects. There is also documentation relating to the CHNS radio station, a history of the School of the Deaf, as well as information about the Old Ladies' Home, Halifax, N.S.; Victoria General Hospital Nurses' Alumnae Association; I.O.D.E.; and the Registered Nurses' Association of Nova Scotia.
