John Allen

Consists of eight letters, most written to John Allen, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia from 1812-1824. The majority of the letters were from his cousin, Robert Allen, of Boston, Massachusetts. Due to the War of 1812, the letters were transported by a third person by ship from Boston to Nova Scotia. They contain Robert's comments on the hostilities between Britain and the United States, as well as family matters such as illnesses and deaths, and intemperate behavior on the part of certain relatives. One letter is written to John's brother, William, of Dartmouth, from a business supplier in Maine regarding funds owing. Some letters are difficult to read due to illegible handwriting. 2006-052
