Sub-series consists of records relating to the work of the Unemployment Relief Central Committee for the Municipality of St. Mary's (also known as the Overseers of the Poor) during the Depression era. Sub-series includes ledger listing heads of households receiving relief, letters requesting relief and offering reasons why relief is required, reports of distributed aid, correspondence with provincial government offices concerning unemployment relief, and one warrant to bring up mother and putative father after birth of child (1947) related to the larger work of the Overseers of the Poor.

Records enumerate groceries ordered by relief recipient, and indicates name of grocer and name of recipient and their community of residence. Grocers include A. Anderson & Son, R.D. Burns & Son, Empire Chain Store, R. & F. Turner, Wm. Snow, D.S. MacKenzie, R. & F. Turner, Jas. Hemlow & Son, S.R. Giffin & Son, A.B. Bezanson, Athol Hattie, McNaughton & Sinclair, J.J. McQuarrie, among others. Sub-series is arranged in seven files.

Sub-series consists of maps used to track and record civic addresses in the rural areas and subdivisions in the County of Halifax. Some of the maps include what may be lot numbers as well as the street numbers; some show building footprints and in some cases, the names of the owners. These maps were known internally as the "Paul Hatt plans" after the technician who drew up most of them. The Planning and Development Department continued to add to the maps, as civic numbers were assigned, until 1996. 312-84-2
