Series forms part of St. Mary's Basilica (Halifax, N.S.) fonds and consists of baptism registers (1800-1939); marriage registers (1800-1942); burial registers (1800-1842, 1875-1876, 1925-1969); created by the priests of the parish according to Church law. Whenever a Catholic requested one of these sacraments, the priest would record the details in these bound volumes. Some volumes contain a name index; most have name indexes supplied by the archives. Baptism records include the name of the person being baptized, the names of the parents, place of habitation, date of baptism, date of birth or age at the time of baptism, names of the godparents, and the priest who performed the ceremony. Notes regarding the marital status of the parents or conversion from another faith were also recorded. Marriage records include names of the bride and groom, names of their parents, place of habitation, date of marriage, names of two witnesses and the priest who performed the ceremony. Burial records include the name of the person who died, the date of death or the date of burial, and the name of the priest who performed the ceremony.

Sunday announcement books kept by Archbishop Edward J. McCarthy from circa 1906 to circa 1920. These announcements were made at each Mass to inform parishioners of events and of people who were sick or recently deceased. Records include the day in the church's liturgical calendar (i.e. Trinity Sunday, 4th Sunday after Epiphany), names of the sick, names of the deceased, location and times of meetings and masses, and the Archbishop's notes. Arranged chronologically in bound volumes.
