Part of City of Halifax fonds
Item consists of a vertical aerial photograph of the Westmount subdivision under construction. Chebucto Rd. runs down the left-hand side of the image with the intersection with Mumford Road in the top left of the frame. Connaught Avenue, at this point still a dirt road, runs across the bottom of the image. In the centre of the image are remnants of the military buildings. that were temporarily constructed on the former Halifax Municipal Airport during WWII. The airport closed in the late 1930s, and after the war, the city planned an innovative design for a new residential area. The unique limited access street plan is plainly visible in this photograph, as is the construction process, as partially assembled houses were placed on the foundations. The building in the top right of the photograph is probably the former St. Patrick's Boy School or Reformatory (see CR 30E.61.19 for a photograph of this institution). 102-39-1-423
