Included are marriage, birth, and death records, registers, and cemetery listings from various churches and parishes. Records include parish registers from St. Matthew’s and the parishes of Ship Harbour and Sheet Harbour, historical notes from St. George’s Church in Halifax, notes from The Presbyterian Witness, records related to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, sketches of saints’ lives, letters and journal extracts of Bishop Charles Inglis, and other religious records. Also included is a census of Loyalist settlers at Ship Harbour who came with Capt. Thomas Green, various obituaries, a memorial of Henry Siteman, and correspondence between the Bishop of Nova Scotia and Rev. John Stevenson. Accession number: 2013.066

Series forms part of the Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds and consists of excerpts and clippings from various newspapers including the Family Herald, notes from Pictou County newspapers, and stories taken from various magazines. The majority of the clippings and notes refer to various Eastern Shore families but also include clippings about locations like Halifax and Dartmouth as well as schools, poems, recipes, church and local history, and notes on vessels that shipped along the Eastern Shore. Also includes vital records. In addition, series contains a German pamphlet from 1923 entitled Das Hakenkreuz, a copy of the statement of Fred Gerhardt regarding the destruction of the Potentate by German submarine in 1918, petitions, and correspondence including one love letter to a young Annabel from Dewey McElmon in 1915 which still contains a lock of hair. Documents include census abstracts for Ship Harbour, Shoal Bay, Little Harbour, Pope’s Harbour, Clam Harbour, Tangier, Owl’s Head, and Mushaboom as well as census records listing heads of families for Districts 26 and 27 including Pope’s Harbour, East Ship Harbour, Jeddore, Clam Harbour, and Little Harbour. Also included are notes on Electoral District 24-26 with voter lists. Court papers include abstracts from Supreme Court records as well as individual cases that include such family names as Abbott, Bean, Blakely (Blakeney), Curry, Den, Eisan, Lessee, Marks, Merryweather, Murphy, O’ Brien, Reardon, Rennels, Robson, Shellnutt, Silver, Siteman, Stoddard, Sutherland, Thorogood, Tucker, and Weaver (Webber). Series forms part of the Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds and consists of correspondence regarding the establishment of a school at Ship Harbour, school trustee documents, school returns and registers for Ship Harbour school. Also includes correspondence from Clam Harbour school section, a memorial of the inhabitants of Egmont Harbour, Jeddore regarding the establishment of a school and church and aid to support a teacher. Also consists of school papers from Pictou County, particularly Toney River, and other school records gathered by Annabel Ells during the course of her research. In addition, series includes original high school certificates, teacher’s licenses and diplomas of Annabel Siteman as well as examination papers for various clerk positions. Series forms part of the Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds and consists of diaries kept by Annabel Ells, John O. Siteman, and Hugh Fraser Siteman as well as two address books, one owned by Hugh F. Siteman which contains mailing addresses and the other owned by Annabel which is really more of a vital record as it contains mostly anniversary and birth dates. Also includes a keepsake album belonging to a young Annabel in which friends and relatives wrote her messages as well as prayer, hymn, and catechism books and several bibles that belonged to Mr. and Mrs. John Siteman, Eddie Ells, and Peggy Richard Standring. Series forms part of the Annabell (Sitman) Ells fonds and consists of correspondence with Mr. and Mrs. John O. Siteman, Hugh Fraser Siteman, and various other correspondents. Like many people in the early 1900s, Annabel collected postcards. The series includes a number of postcards depicting German soldiers and other German photographs written between 1910 and 1920 and predominantly written in German. Series also contains a large number of postcards sent to and from Annabel Ells from Boston, California, Scotland and other locations as well as other miscellaneous letters and cards from various individuals including correspondence with clients for whom Annabel was conducting research and responses from people to whom she had made genealogical inquiries. Also includes a list of the negatives held by NSARM and a piece of the wedding dress of John Siteman’s first wife Susan which was found in an envelope addressed to him in the Magdalene Islands a year after their marriage. Series forms part of the Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds and consists of family photographs and negatives. Included are many photographs of the Ship Harbour area and its residents, particularly Annabel’s home there, both interior and exterior views, the landscape, gardens, her parents, herself, her husband Eddie, and the family’s animals. There are also many photographs of the places where Annabel lived in Halifax including both interior and exterior views, photographs from trips to Ontario and the United States and different locations in Nova Scotia including Peggy’s Cove, Berwick, Kingsport, and Toney River, Pictou Co. where Annabel’s mother was from. Also included are photographs of Eddie Ells and his first wife taken before and after their marriage as well as photographs with their family members in Kingsport where Eddie was from and in Prince Edward Island where his first wife Lillian Genge came from. There are also photographs of Annabel’s friends and colleagues including Peggy Richard Standring and the women who Annabel worked with at the Income Tax Office in Halifax as well as staff members of the Provincial Archives. Also included are a number of unidentified photographs of various people and locations, photographs of a flying club, tombstones, pet cemeteries, railway photographs, automobiles, activities, buildings, ships and other relatives and acquaintances of Annabel and Eddie Ells.
