Series consists of material relating to the Jones family collected by Lynn Jones. The material consists of news clippings, event programs, family genealogical materials, invitations, correspondence, and other documents. The materials in this collection are generally filed together by individual or event. This series also contains subseries of material which was filed with these documents, one contains issues of "Tidings" (the Black Cultural Society newsletter), and other documents, and the second contains scrapbooks of news clippings and other material made by Lynn Jones in the 1960s and 1970s. 2016.002.1, Series 1

File consists of three scrapbooks created by Lynn Jones in the 1960s and 1970s. Includes an early one dating from 1962-1963, one (originally in a white binder) from 1968, and one started in 1972. File consists of the first part of a scrapbook started by Lynn in 1972. The scrapbook contains primarily news clippings relating to Lynn, her friends/neighbours, or issues of interest to African-Canadian communities (e.g., the Black United Front). Fonds consists of material relating to the life and accomplishments of Lynn Jones, members of her family and community, and as well as material collected by her that documents over 50 years of African-Nova Scotian, African, and African Diaspora heritage and history. The Collection documents Lynn's family, her own achievements (Lynn's candidacy for the NDP, union service, election observer work in South Africa, Canadian Public Service career, and involvement with the Black Working Group), and those of her brother Rocky. The Collection also documents local, national, and international people, history and issues through a substantive collection of news clippings, pamphlets, brochures, posters, and other materials. These record local communities (especially in Truro, Nova Scotia), local events, struggles against racism locally, nationally, and internationally, and Black community organizations such as the Black Working Group set up to advise Human Resources and Development Canada on how to work with the African-Canadian community. File consists of material relating to Lynn's mother, Willena. The material relates to Willena's personal life as a teacher in Truro (includes certificates, news articles, and other documents), as well as news clippings, biographies (written by family members) covering her personal life (including her 1935 marriage to Elmer Jones), and correspondence with Calvin Ruck concerning Jeremiah Jones. File consists of various material relating to Lynn's grandfather, war veteran Jeremiah Jones, as well as war veteran Sydney Morgan Jones (they were half-brothers). The material in the file includes primarily news clippings documenting the history of African-Canadians in World War I, news articles relating to Calvin Ruck's campaign for recognition for Jeremiah Jones, histories written by Ruck, and copies of textbook pages and other published sources. The file also includes obituaries (including one of Jeremiah's father), and a funeral program for Sydney, and a piece of correspondence from Rocky Jones asking for information from the Department of Veteran Affairs about Jeremiah's war service. Subseries consists of 12 files, 9 of which contain obituaries (from news papers), memorial service programs, and eulogies (including a handwritten one for Charles Tynes from granddaughter Donna Reddick. Some of the clippings are of family members (e.g., Rocky Jones, Elmer Jones, and Robert Jones).
