Sunday announcement books kept by Archbishop Edward J. McCarthy from circa 1906 to circa 1920. These announcements were made at each Mass to inform parishioners of events and of people who were sick or recently deceased. Records include the day in the church's liturgical calendar (i.e. Trinity Sunday, 4th Sunday after Epiphany), names of the sick, names of the deceased, location and times of meetings and masses, and the Archbishop's notes. Arranged chronologically in bound volumes.

Series forms part of St. Mary's Basilica (Halifax, N.S.) fonds and consists of one minute book (1801-1822) for the "Singing Society of St. Peter's Chapel" whose role was to sing the music for Sunday mass and other rituals in the Catholic Church. The minutes contain attendance at meetings, date of meeting, location of meeting, financial transactions, motions, and resolutions.

The Boat Club was located on the North West Arm in Hlifax, operated by the Church for the recreation of Catholic residents.

Series forms part of St. Mary's Basilica (Halifax, N.S.) fonds and consists of minutes and account book (1840-1849) for the society and an illuminated calligraphy address (11 July 1881) to Monsignor Patrick Power, in recognition of 30 years of service. This society was formed in 1840 to promote Christian education and they founded two free schools for Catholic children: St. Mary's Parochial Male School and St. Patrick's School in the north end of Halifax. The Society members paid the wages of its teachers, awarded prizes to students, and provided clothing and shoes for those who could not afford to buy them. Arranged chronologically, the minutes and account book contains correspondence, member lists, membership dues, resolutions, amounts collected and ongoing totals for individuals at the back of the book, arranged alphabetically.

The Society was an international charitable organization established in 1822 in Lyons, France. The St. Mary's chapter was founded in 1843 and used their funds to subscribe to a new Catholic newslpaper in the area called "The Cross."

Series forms part of St. Mary's Basilica (Halifax, N.S.) fonds and consists of four sick call books (1895-1906, 1906-1916, 1916-1925, 1925-1931) which were used to record the details of visits to the sick or dying. Priests were often called to the person's house or hospital bed to offer spiritual comfort through the administration of the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, especially if it was believed the person was near death. The sick call books contain the date of visitation, date of death, name, sacraments received, and the name of the priest who visited. Records are arranged chronologically by date of visitation.

Series forms part of St. Mary's Basilica (Halifax, N.S.) fonds and consists of loose pages (1926-1932) and one volume (1917-1919) of sermons (also called homilies) handwritten by an unknown priest or priests. These sermons would have been spoken at Sunday Mass for the spiritual education of Catholic adults and were based on the Bible readings assigned for that Sunday. Some of the topics include the Holy Ghost, Purgatory, Christ's love for Sinners, the Blessed Virgin and the Crucifixion. Each sermon is approximately 10 pages of hand written material. Included in the records are rough notes, a newspaper article by Brockhold Livingston, some typed pages, and a letter signed by Thomas O'Donnell. Loose pages are arranged randomly and the bound volume is arranged chronologically by the liturgical calendar year.
