Part of Katherine L. Stoddard family fonds
Series is part of the Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of one yearbook or publication entitled The Academy Annual and dated Christmas, 1912. It would appear that the book probably belonged to Katherine Stoddard’s mother, Eva (Siteman) Stoddard as her name is written throughout the book as well as many references to Ship Harbour. The book was a publication of the Halifax Academy and contains various stories, photographs and information about the students attending the academy. On at least one page it is possible to make out the text of a letter that had been written and erased, making application to the Secretary of Trustees for a position at Ship Harbour School written by Eva Siteman in 1914. Eva likely attended the Halifax Academy in preparation to become a teacher. Accession number: 2013.008

Petition of Michael Eisan
Item · 1785
Item consists of printed microfilm copies of a petition written by Michael Eisan to the Hon. Thomas [Dundas], received December 29, 1785. The document includes a signed oath stating that Eisan resided at Halifax/ Dartmouth from July 15, 1783 to March 25th, 1784, however, that he was incapable of delivering any request for relief, outlining the claims and losses that he had incurred in South Carolina during the American Revolution, within the allotted amount of time for claims submissions. His reason for not submitting his claim to the Commissioners on time was that he was unable to procure any evidence to substantiate his claims or prove his losses and he believed that there was no point in submitting a relief request without any such evidence. The document also includes government responses to his petition, regarding the events that took place during the dissentions in America and the actions of the Loyalists. Accession number: 2013.015

Part of Eastern Shore Archives map collection
Series forms part of the map collection and consists of reproductions of maps of the Nova Scotia’s East coast, originally charted and published by the British Admiralty. One of the maps is a reproduction of the former British Admiralty chart 2439 (M-016), reproduced by the Canadian Hydrographic Service, Surveys and Mapping Branch, Department of Mines and Technical Surveys in 1960. Two of the maps show the diversities of the coast, ledges, shoals, rocks, soundings, and the quality of the bottom and were originally compiled by Captain Bayfield and Commander Orlebar of the Royal Navy, in 1867. Additions and corrections were made from the Canadian Government Charts in 1918 to 1924 and the final edition was published in 1935 as part of coastal survey conducted in consequence of an order from the Right Honourable Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty.
