Owl's Head School memorabilia fonds

Consists of two handmade and handwritten books entitled, The Owlet and The Work of the Owl, which were created by the students of the Owl’s Head Harbour School. The Owlet was a magazine that the students created for exhibition in Halifax with the help of their teacher. Associated editors of The Owlet are listed as being Una Palmer, Reta Palmer, and Helen Parker. It features poems, horoscopes, essays, a school prophecy, jokes, drawings including the school and its floor plan, a list of pupils, and lists of improvements made to the school in the year 1932-1933. Some of the essays in this book relate to work and life in Owls Head and include an essay on sheep farming and the breed of sheep used. The Work of the Owl is a yearbook created by the students of the Owl’s Head Harbour School. It includes the school yell, school song, songs learned during year, animated map of Owl’s Head, poetry and prose about various topics, horoscopes, humor, and drawings. Accession number 2013.005

Item consists of a treasurer's book of the Home & School Association of Jeddore Oyster Pond, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, covering the period from 1943 to 1958. Recorded in the book are receipts from the Association’s various income sources, as well as expenses for its various programs and events. Also included in the expenses are “equalization” fees which may have been intended for other affiliated home & school associations, and sums for the purchase or rental of a Gestetner copying machine. Eastern Shore District High School fonds

The first three series of the fonds consist of essays and research written and compiled by Mr. Patrick Milligan and Mr. D. Engram’s grade ten students at Eastern Shore District High School between 1973 and 1980 as part of a class project on local history. The essays include information about various aspects of the history of the Eastern Shore such as industries and occupations, activities, cemeteries, churches, individuals, houses, education, and family and community history. Selected essays from Mr. Milligan’s local history course, 1974-1975, were compiled into a school publication called The Shore Thing, a preliminary copy of which is included in the fonds. The purpose of the book was to introduce students to their own area and familiarize them with the history of local communities along the Eastern Shore. It was placed in the school library for the benefit of all students. The fonds also consists of yearbooks and a newspaper published by the school during the first ten years of its operation. Collection consists of daily attendance registers from various schools along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, accumulated by the Easter Shore Archives. Records were created between 1891 and 1987, and in about 2003. Registers date from 1891 to 1987 and are usually identified by school name, section number, district or municipality, county, and school year. Some schools have a more complete range of records than others. Information recorded in the registers includes full name of student, date of birth, record of vaccination and inoculations, and name and address of parent or guardian. A variety of additional annual statistics and prescriptions are also included. Most of the registers are arranged by school name and chronologically within each school. Collection also includes a copy of a 1920-1921 register from the Sheet Harbour Road school, produced ca. 2003. Grace (Williams) Forsythe fonds

Consists of records created and accumulated by Grace Edith Forsythe primarily during her career as an educator and as a result of her involvement with the Marine Highway Historical Society, including records related to her teaching career, photographs, and material related to local history. Also included are publications produced by the Marine Highway Historical Society as well as layouts and preliminary copies. Contents also include scrapbooks, correspondence, advertisements, recipes, and material related to the Red Cross Society. In addition, fonds includes records acquired by Grace Forsythe and related to her aunt and uncle Cora (Harpell) and Sandy Myers, who owned the Salmon River House and with whom Grace lived for a time.
