Fonds consists of approximately 137 hours of oral history interviews conducted by Lena Ferguson. Most interviewees were residents of the Eastern Shore region of Halifax County, particularly the Chezzetcook area. Interview topics include genealogy, local industries, occupations, music, shipping, community life, traditions, and folklore. In addition to interviews, the creator recorded school reunions, concerts, weddings, and church anniversaries. Several paper transcripts are included as well as scrapbooks featuring articles written by Lena and other newspaper articles regarding the Chezzetcook area. 2019.014

The collection consists primarily of photographs documenting the history of the town of Mahone Bay and the immediate surrounding areas in Lunenburg County. The collection, which includes original photographs, copy prints, and postcards (real photos and halftones), depicts many different facets of the lives of the people of the Mahone Bay community: bands; buildings and street views; celebrations and events; cemeteries; churches; the First World War; the Masonic Lodge; people; photo albums; school photos; the Second World War; shipbuilding; street views; and town views. There are also a number of stereoviews (original photographs and printed halftones) that portray a wide variety of non-local subjects, including the operations of the T. Eaton Company, various Canadian views, the San Francisco Earthquake, the Russo-Japanese War, the Holy Land, and various scenes of rural life and domestic comedy, including the impact of the “New Woman.” MBMS-14
William Ansell Gaetz family fonds

Fonds consists of financial records belonging to William Gaetz including insurance papers, receipts, correspondence, documents related to the estate of Josephine Gaetz, and military pension information. Also included are records related to Gaetz’s time spent serving in WWI, correspondence with soldiers during WWII, records related to Gaetz’s membership in the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Musquodoboit Harbour United Church for which Gaetz acted as treasurer. Church records include financial papers and correspondence, account books, receipts, religious education material, meeting minutes, photographs, insurance documents, and other material. Fonds also includes records pertaining to electoral districts and voters as Gaetz was one of the revisors of the voter lists for his district. Leading Aircraftman (LAC) William George Scott, also known as Billy, was originally from Glace Bay, Cape Breton. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a pilot and underwent training on Tiger Moth, Harvard, and Anson aircraft from September 1942 to October 1944. On May 18, 1945, WO II Scott applied to join the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserves (RNVR). SAM.2009.0037.001

Raymond Augustus Keefe was born in Coley’s Point, Newfoundland, and joined the Royal Air Force in 1943 during World War II. He served as a Wireless Operator and Air Gunner on Consolidated B-24 Liberator aircraft. In June 1944, LAC Keefe was sent to #3 Wireless Training School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he received training as a Wireless Operator until November of the same year. He was then promoted to Sergeant and sent to #7 Bombing and Gunnery School in Paulson, Manitoba, from December 1944 to January 1945 to train as an Air Gunner. In May 1945, Sgt. Keefe was sent to #5 Operational Training Unit in Boundary Bay, British Columbia, for air gunner training and practice exercises. He finished his training at #5 Operational Training Unit in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in July 1945, where he trained on Consolidated B-24 Liberators and North American Mitchells. Sgt. Keefe's logbook also includes his Royal Air Force Service and Release Record Book SAM2015.0009.002. The service book certifies that Sgt. Keefe served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) from 19 November 1943 to 21 January 1946 and was granted 81 days of leave on release.. SAM2015.0009.001
