The item was originally a ledger from a store in Spry Bay c. 1896, in which accounts and retail transactions were recorded. The store may have been owned by the Leslie family. Later, around the time of the First World War, Bessie (Gerrard) Hilchey began using the ledger as a scrapbook and pasting newspaper clippings onto the pages, thereby covering most of the original ledger information. The scrapbook dates between about 1905 to 1953 and includes poems, newspaper articles, obituaries, marriage and engagement notices, graduation notices, clippings related to World War I and some small clippings about World War II, articles about horticulture, etiquette, single women and wives, bachelors and husbands, society columns, and articles about notable disasters or accidents including shipwrecks and fires. There are also handwritten notes mainly referring to the weather on the inside of the first page. These notes also record dates that buildings were constructed as well as the Halifax Explosion. Pages 195 to 285 have not been scrapbooked and remain purely accounts of retail transactions made at the store in Spry Bay, including the names of customers. Accession number: 2013.011

Fonds consists of records of the Chezzetcook Historical Society and its members. Textual records were created between about 1900- 1930, 1950- 1955, 1965, and 1974- 2008, but the majority date to between 1974 and 2004. Fonds consists of records of the Union Church of Lake Charlotte, Halifax County, Nova Scotia and include account books and other financial records and minutes of meetings. Included is an original account book detailing the annual list of individuals who contributed to the church, along with the amount paid to the minister. Cash disbursements and cash received are logged at the back of the book. Fonds also contains reproductions of three books containing the meeting minutes of the church dating from the first meeting in 1896 up until 1987. The books also record financial accounts of the church from 1896 to 1994, including cash disbursements and cash received. Also included with the books are reproductions of receipts and sheets of paper recording subscriptions for repairs to the church building, accounts, and other information. Fonds consists of financial records belonging to William Gaetz including insurance papers, receipts, correspondence, documents related to the estate of Josephine Gaetz, and military pension information. Also included are records related to Gaetz’s time spent serving in WWI, correspondence with soldiers during WWII, records related to Gaetz’s membership in the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Musquodoboit Harbour United Church for which Gaetz acted as treasurer. Church records include financial papers and correspondence, account books, receipts, religious education material, meeting minutes, photographs, insurance documents, and other material. Fonds also includes records pertaining to electoral districts and voters as Gaetz was one of the revisors of the voter lists for his district. In addition, fonds includes lists of officers of the Musquodoboit Harbour Volunteer Fire Department and other material. Accession number 2012.001

Consists of records created and accumulated by Grace Edith Forsythe primarily during her career as an educator and as a result of her involvement with the Marine Highway Historical Society, including records related to her teaching career, photographs, and material related to local history. Also included are publications produced by the Marine Highway Historical Society as well as layouts and preliminary copies. Contents also include scrapbooks, correspondence, advertisements, recipes, and material related to the Red Cross Society. In addition, fonds includes records acquired by Grace Forsythe and related to her aunt and uncle Cora (Harpell) and Sandy Myers, who owned the Salmon River House and with whom Grace lived for a time. Fonds consists primarily of records created and accumulated by Claude Webber’s parents, Leonard Stanley and Greta (Lewis) Webber as well as Claude’s aunt, Mrs. Alexander ‘Sandy’ Webber (Ada Parker). Greta and Ada Webber were both involved with the Upper Lakeville Ladies' Sewing Guild. Fonds also consists of Leonard Webber’s military records from World War I, the account books and receipts of the Ladies' Sewing Guild, and other invoices and receipts. Accession number 2013.037
Robert A. Logan fonds

Fonds consists of records related or possibly related to Robert A. Logan’s activities as a gold prospector in the area around Lake Charlotte, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. During the 1930s, Logan was Vice-President and manager of Prospectors Associated Activities Limited (sometimes abbreviated to PRASAC), a prospecting and mining company based in Lake Charlotte (then known as Ship Harbour Lake). Although he ceased his involvement with PRASAC in the 1940s, Logan may have continued prospecting in the area. The records are primarily related to the purchase of mining and ore-processing equipment and include correspondence, brochures, catalogues, instructions, invoices, receipts, and notes. Accompanying one letter from a manufacturer is a photo of an offered piece of equipment (a concentrating table). Also included are a handwritten table of supplies needed to feed eight men on a 10-week expedition, a typed summary of gold mining operations for the years 1935-1936 and the first quarter of 1937, drafts and instructions for a letterhead design for PRASAC, and a copy of a hand-drawn map sketching shipping routes between PRASAC’s headquarters and major cities in Atlantic Canada, Eastern Canada, and the Northeastern United States. Although most mining-related records are from the 1930s, some date to the 1940s, and one product brochure dates to 1919. Fonds also includes records related to Logan’s life and other activities in the Lake Charlotte area, including correspondence, instructions and brochures related to equipment which Logan bought for his home or personal use. Some instructions are prepared by Logan himself, including a set of handwritten notes and diagrams which details his repairs and installation of a well pump, as well as giving instructions for its use. In addition, fonds includes copies of a plan showing the lands of Lawrence Webber, Upper Lakeville, to be leased by the estate of J. Edward Webber, Lake Charlotte, dated August 8, 1967. Fonds also includes a photograph of Robert A. Logan and his wife Daisy (Barrett) Logan taken in May of 1962. Accession number 2010.006.
