Jackie Barkley fonds

Fonds consists of of records created or compiled by Jackie Barkley through her study of and involvement in social issues and organizations, especially those dealing with anti-racism, municipal action, anti-poverty, child care and women’s issues. The records document social struggles for better day care, education and strengthening the black community in the Halifax Region. Barkley's involvment organizing Peace in Biafra Day in 1969, and with the Municipal Action Committee, the Nova Scotia Coalition Against the KKK, and Parents for a Model School at St. Joseph's - Alexander McKay School are particularly well documented. Records also document her research and work as a social worker and provide related documentation from groups including: the Black United Front, Metro Coalition for a Non-Racist Society, Housing for People Coalition, Anti-Poverty Network, and Community Advocates for Rights with Responsibilities among others. James Crosskill Mackintosh fonds

Fonds consists of Council and Board meeting notices, correspondence and telegrams, promotional materials, and information circulars either sent to or collated by Mr. Mackintosh. The contents of the fonds document his mayoral career, his involvements with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), his religious convictions, and demonstrate his community and business involvements including: Halifax and Dartmouth Steam Ferry Company, Limited, School for the Blind, and the Chamber of Commerce among others. Janet Matheson's images of RCAF Women's Division in Nova Scotia

Item consists of material collected by Janet Matheson during her stay in Halifax during WWII when she appears to have volunteered with RCAF Women's Division. Photographs are of Halifax, air force bases at Stanley, NS and trips to Sydney, Bridgewater, Liverpool, PEI, and perhaps Saskatchewan, some with frieds "Betty and Marg". Some show the ship "Huron" and the participants in the No. 12 Service Police Course at Trenton Air Station, 1941. The one labelled Corporal Ken Matheson was a joke as Janet's brother would have been 14 or 15 at the time, probably wearing a friend's uniform. Postcards are not written on and mainly depict Windsor and Kentville, with two of the SS Prince Edward Island ice breaker, one of an airman beside an airplane and a 1946 postcard of the RMS Queen Elizabeth entering Halifax Harbour. One postcard of the Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan train station was written to Ken Matheson (Janet's brother) in Halifax in 1944. An undated newsclipping is a photo of the members of the Eastern Air Command RCAF Women's Division at their farewell banquet at the Nova Scotian Hotel, with a caption naming everyone; neither Mathesons nor Noseworthy are listed. Photographs show the family, friends and pets, the family's home on Oakland Rd., Halifax, their cottage on St. Margaret's Bay, golfing at Brightwood Golf Club, Louise and Marion's sojourn working with the Canadian Red Cross Society's Overseas Detachment during World War II, and family trips to Florida, Ontario and Europe.
