Captain Bowman Corning fonds

Fonds consists of bills of lading and correspondence regarding the barque Statesman. Correspondence includes letters to Captain Corning from ship agents John and Robert Young and Robert Hastie and Co., both of Glasgow, Scotland, regarding the securing of cargoes, prices and shipping voyages. Correspondence for the year 1856 does not exist.

Fonds consists of one book of fees, which records date, vessel name, master's name, voyage destination, and amount paid at Shelburne and Yarmouth; one small sum book for the port, which was also used as a diary and account book; 2 records of licences of vessels, which includes name of vessel, owner and vessel specifications; 6 registers of vessels entering port; 5 registers used to record vessels departing port; 3 registers of outport reports; 1 register of seamen discharged at Yarmouth; 2 registers of seamen shipped at Yarmouth; 2 registers of all vessels involved in the coasting trade in regards to the Port of Yarmouth; and 1 account book of goods received into the customs warehouse; register used to record outgoing vessels included records of collecting stations' for outports. The 1926-1946 register of seamen shipped includes records regarding crew changes for M.V. Bluenose. Also included are accounts of vessels registered to the port of Yarmouth (1924-1967), bills of sale and declaration of ownership certificates.
