History
Municipal school boards in Nova Scotia were established between 1942 to 1947. Each rural municipality had its own municipal school board to oversee its school sections. The municipal school boards reported to the Council of Public Instruction and later the Minister of Education. The boards were responsible for assuming the cost of operation of the schools and for determining the boundaries of school sections. In the 1950's, the duties and authority of the municipal school boards gradually increased as they absorbed the responsibilities of the trustees.
