Administrative history

The Recreation Committee, which existed 1973-1996, dealt with issues relating to recreation facilities, tourism, and insurance. At least two meetings of a special committee of Council were held (1972-1973, to discuss the advisability of creating a permanent Recreation Committee. According to a motion of this special committee carried at the January 3, 1973 meeting, the Recreation Committee was to map and inventory all recreation facilities available in the Municipality, including schools and school grounds. The Committee also acted as a Liaison Committee between local groups and the Province of Nova Scotia and/or Provincial Recreation Department, particularly with regards to claims or matching grants.

Administrative history

The Planning Advisory Committee, which existed 1949-1996, was given its duties and powers by the Town Planning Act. It met at least once a week. It held public hearings on re-zoning applications and dealt with building problems. The committee had previously been known as the Planning Board and changed its name in 1970.
