Biographical history
Joseph Simpson Harris was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, in 1852 to William Henry Harris and Anne Arnison. He farmed in Pictou County and was later appointed High Sheriff, as were his father and grandfather before him. In 1881 he married Emma Ives, with whom he had five children: William Henry, George, Daniel, Margaret, and Christian. Harris died a widower in 1934.
Custodial history
Records were donated to the Dalhousie University Archives by Mrs. Clark Long and accessioned in 1971, and by Niels Jannasch in 1973.
Scope and content
Fonds comprises writs of execution, auction registers, papers regarding the barque Redento (1895), and correspondence (primarily postcards) reflecting Harris's work as High Sheriff for Pictou County.
