Biographical history
Joseph Symonds was born in 1783, the son of Nathaniel Symonds a pioneer merchant in Antigonish, N.S. Joseph married Sarah Randall and resided in Linwood (then called Little Tracadie), Antigonish County. He was active in business and community affairs. He operated a store and was a Justice of the Peace.
Custodial history
The records were purchased by the Antigonish Heritage Museum from Daisy MacDonald of Churchville, Pictou County, N.S. MacDonald has been a collector of memorabilia and local history.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of one ledger, receipts, letters and other papers regarding Symonds' business, which serviced the ethnically diverse population of the area. It appears that two persons made entries in the ledger. One is known to be Symonds, the other is unknown.
