Scope and content

Item consists of a table lamp shaped like a Japanese five-story pagoda, known as a Goju-no-to. The lamp was given to the Halifax Regional Municipality by Hakodate, Japan, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their twinning. The base and roofs of the temple are made of red-stained wood and the rest of the temple is made of darker stained wood. Plastic bells are hung from the corners of each roof and there is a plastic spire on the top. The lamp's lightbulb is installed inside the temple so the light can shine through the temple's windows.
