              Collection consists of copies of a deed, a will, and a property record related to people and places along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, accumulated by the Eastern Shore Archives. Records were created in 1982. Collection includes the 1883 will of Isaac Webber Sr. of Lakeville, an 1878 deed recording Isaac Webber’s purchase from Charlotte Garrott and Eve Parker of a parcel of land in Lakeville, and an 1850 document recording Isaac Webber’s purchase of a parcel of land between Ship Harbour and Clam Harbour.               Series forms part of the Stanley F. Flaherty family fonds and consists of an original indenture made on February 27, 1961 between Jessie Kennedy of Midland, Ontario and Myrtle Norwood Flaherty of LaSalle, Quebec, wherein Flaherty purchased land in Petpeswick from Kennedy. In addition there is an original deed of release dated 1970 between Myrtle (Norwood) and Stanley Flaherty and the Crown regarding the expropriation of land near Martinique Beach. In addition there is a photocopy of an agreement regarding property boundaries of land near Martinique Beach signed by Mary Bayers, William Conrad, Arthur Bayers, and Jessie Kennedy in 1938 with an accompanying map by Morrison and Parker that showing the estate of W. J. Kennedy. Jessie Kennedy was Jessie Lavinia Star, daughter of James and Sophia (Greenough) Chisholm (b. January 10, 1881, Greenough Settlement) who married William J. Kennedy on June 24, 1908. Kennedy was a physician from Middleboro, Ontario and they lived in Musquodoboit Harbour for a time. They were living there in 1911 and had two sons, Stephen J. and William. Arthur Bayers may have been Arthur Augusta Bayers of East Petpeswick (b.1883). He had a daughter named Mary (b. 1910) and his mother’s name was also Mary, therefore either Mary Bayers could have signed the land agreement. Also included is another map showing land surveyed by Walter Stewart for Clarence J. Bayers, Dorothy J. Campbell, and Cora and Gerald Conrod in the Martinique Beach area and dated July 10, 1962.               Series forms part of Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of three land deeds including one for land in Hantsport purchased from Charles Cowley Brown and his wife Emma by Robert J. Stoddard, Master Mariner, for six hundred dollars in 1924; one for land in Kings County purchased from George A. and Louise Yeaton by Robert J. Stoddard for one dollar in 1924; and one for land in Horton, King’s County, purchased by Robert J. Stoddard of Musquodoboit Harbour from John L. and Eunice E. Graham for three thousand six hundred dollars in 1923. Series also includes transcripts of a grant for five hundred acres to Thomas Stoddard dated September, 1784. Also includes typed transcripts of memorials written by Michael Eisan to the governor discussing a request for land in Jeddore and a later purchase of land in Ship Harbour c. 1786-1791 as well as another memorial dated 1796, wherein Eisan requests that he be granted permission to take possession of some back lands to attempt to raise grain in order to sustain his family, as he and his neighbors were having difficulty doing so on their current land in Ship Harbour; it being so close to the sea. Another transcript includes a deed for 200 acres on Lot. 20 purchased by Eisan from Joseph Lumb (or Lamb) for nine pounds in 1791. The transcripts also include a rejected petition made by Michael Eisan, Loyalist, for relief due to loss of property in South Carolina. The series also includes transcripts of the will of Thomas Stoddard of Clam Harbour dated 1813, bequeathing his land to his sons Walter Hercules, Thomas Ratchford, George William Sherlock, and Edmund Fanning. Michael Eisan (1730-1833) was the grandfather of Katherine Stoddard’s great grandmother Elizabeth Eisan. Accession number: 2013.008

              Fonds consists of records of the family of F. Mitchell and the related Hosking family of Nova Scotia and includes financial records, records related to the Murray Harbour Black and Silver Fox Ranching Company, photographs, diary excerpts, correspondence, certificates, records related to tourism, wartime and military memorabilia, religious records, records related to the Freemasons, and music.               Part of F. Mitchell, Hosking family fonds
              Series forms part of F. Mitchell, Hosking family fonds and consists of personal receipts, invoices, bills, lists of expenditures, and policies mostly belonging to the Hosking and Mitchell families, as well as one receipt from the store of G. L. Monk in Ship Harbour for lumber. Series also includes one land grant, two land indentures, two maps and one bill of sale.The land grant is dated August 12, 1834 and in it the Crown grants Colin Mitchell Sr. two hundred acres of land in Oyster Pond adjacent to a lot of land granted to Edward Hare. The document discusses the boundaries of the property and includes a map of the Oyster Pond area, clearly showing Colin Mitchell’s land grant as well as that of Edward Hares, and land near Navy Pool surveyed for W. Myers. The land grant is signed by Lieutenant Governor, Major General Sir Colin Campbell. The second map in the series is of a land grant map of Halifax County from the Department of Lands and Forests dated 1932.The land indentures include one transaction between Samuel Mitchell and John D. Mitchell dated April 7, 1873. In it, Samuel Mitchell gives John D. Mitchell a parcel of land at the head of Jeddore harbour, in the area of Oyster Pond, for the sum of forty dollars. The document is witnessed by Timothy Archibald John Cribby. The second indenture is between Hibbert, Lord Bishop of Nova Scotia, and Archibald Prest and dated 1883. In the indenture, Prest buys a parcel of land in Mooseland for the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars. The bill of sale is dated November 25, 1874 and transfers sixty-four shares in the ship P.C. Hill to John Mitchell. Series also includes records regarding the settlement of the estate and outstanding debts of the late Philip Mitchell. The estate was settled by his nephew, John Duncan Mitchell. Accession numbers 2003.011, 2010.013

              Series forms part of the Eastern Shore Board of Trade, District 19 fonds and consists of records of the financial transactions of the board, including receipts, financial statements and other material. Series also includes a ledger book listing names of board members and payment of membership dues. In addition, series includes a legal document related to the board’s purchase of a property in Lake Charlotte to be used as a recreation center.
