Scope and content

Item consists of photographs primarily taken during Lloyd’s two terms as Mayor of Halifax. Most photographs depict the mayor attending meetings, receptions, and other local events where he was making presentations or speeches. For example, many photographs were taken at a meeting of the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities in Ottawa. Others depict the mayor attending the opening of Mulgrave Park and the Red Cross building; with members of the Downtown Business and Professional Men’s Association and other local organizations; and attending local events such as a wreath laying ceremony and a dog show opening at the Halifax Forum. The series also includes head shots of Lloyd, as well as a few colour photographs of Lloyd likely taken by family of friends. Some photographs are accompanied by brief correspondence. Most of the photographs were professionally taken and include a photographer’s stamp au verso. Many of the photos also appear to be reprints of ones appearing in local newspapers and may appear in the scrapbooks (CR 9A).
