Administrative history
102 Marine Squadron was formed in 1943 by the Royal Canadian Air Force, under Eastern Air Command, to man and operate supply vessels of the Marine section at R.C.A.F. Station Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Many of the men were former merchant marines, R.C.A.F. Marine Squadron personnel and experienced fishermen. Its formation also included all the Marine Sections, manned by R.C.A.F., permanent force personnel, at the various seaplane bases. At its peak, the Squadron had a strength of over 300 personnel and more than 70 vessels. It had its own Diving, Salvage and Recovery section and two of its more well known supply vessels were the Beaver and the Eskimo. The Squadron was sometimes referred to as the "Eastern Air Command Marine Squadron." The Squadron disbanded in November of 1951.
