        History

The Medical Society of Nova Scotia is the professional association representing all medical doctors in the province. Founded in 1854 and incorporated in 1861, the Medical Society's official organ was The Nova Scotia Medical Bulletin established in 1922, published monthly. The General Council is the society's governing body and is comprised of about 160 members. The society's board of directors is responsible for the ongoing operation of the Society between annual general meetings which are held each spring. Fifteen branch societies provide an opportunity to address local and community issues and concerns. As well, sections, comprised of physicians with similar interests, serve as consulting bodies. The society is a division of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
