Biographical history

Merna Myra Frank was born at Pleasant River, Queens County in 1891. The daughter of Aspah M. Frank and Myra Newcomb, she began her career as a teacher in North Queens in 1909, eventually teaching at North Brookfield for several years. She graduated from the Normal College in Truro in 1913 and later taught at Kentville during the 1914-15 school year. In 1917, she married the Mahone Bay merchant Warren Howard Gladstone Hirtle. Merna Myra (Frank) Hirtle died at Mahone Bay in 1960.

Fonds consists primarily of records relating to Merna Myra (Frank) Hirtle’s early education and her later career as a teacher. The records include school assignments, certificates, memoranda of agreement, and letters of recommendation.
