Administrative history

The International Order of Good Templars [I.O.G.T.] is a fraternal temperance organization founded in 1851 that promotes total abstinence from alcohol. The Mountain Glen Lodge no. 627 was founded in 1911 in the community of Glenelg, within the Municipality of the District of St. Mary's. Meetings were held in the Glenelg hall.

Custodial history

Items were donated to Sherbrooke Village Restoration by Mabel Carty of Sherbrooke, Guysborough County, in 1987. Mabel Carty was the daughter of Greta MacLeod Mills, the first secretary of Mount Glen I.O.G.T. Lodge. Items were in the possession of Sherbrooke Village Restoration and transferred to the St. Mary's Genealogy Research Centre at Sherbrooke Village in 2020.

Scope and content

Fonds consist of two meeting minute books of the Mountain Glen Temperance Lodge, Glenelg (1911-1919), two song sheets from the International Order of Good Templars [I.O.G.T.], a blank application membership to the I.O.G.T. (known as "taking the pledge") (192?).
