Biographical history
Alice VanMalder of Musquodoboit Harbour was appointed as division registrar of births and deaths for the registration of Division No. 13 on December 17, 1938. She was also appointed as deputy issuer of marriage licenses on December 8, 1938. She kept detailed ledgers of these transactions, including many additional notations that were not required of the position.
Custodial history
Records were received from Dr. Jardine of Musquodoboit Harbour, who was in possession of them as executor of Ms. VanMalder’s will.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of two ledgers detailing births, deaths, and marriages in the Musquodoboit, Petpeswick, and Ostrea Lake areas from 1939 to 1943. The certificates documenting Ms. Van Malder's appointment as registrar are also included.
