              Fonds consists of collected research on the history of the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s from its earliest records, with a special focus on gold mining and Goldenville, Nova Scotia, as well as the personal archives of the Lomas family recording their decades of public service alongside historical material gathered from their families and the community in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia. The historical research begins with the earliest inhabitants of the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s, and continues with the arrival of Europeans, reports on the economic development of the area, essays on regional occupations, churches, charitable organizations, schools, government, transportation, communications, energy, banking, health care, recreation, and the war effort in two world wars. It collects research on the communities of Ecum Secum, Marie Joseph, New Chester, The Liscombs, Spanish Ship Bay, Sherbrooke, Sonora, Wine Harbour, Indian Harbour, Port Hilford, Port Bickerton, Harpelville, Fisherman’s Harbour, Jordanville, Stillwater, Waternish, Melrose, Aspen, The Forks, Denver, Glenelg, Smithfield, the Caledonias, Goshen, Argyle, Garden of Eden and the St. Mary’s River. Goldenville, Nova Scotia, is covered extensively with maps, photographs, census reports and other papers. Many histories of the region are collected in this fond, including unpublished memoirs. Papers from the Prince Henry Sinclair Society, St. Mary’s Historical Society, West River Station Restoration Committee, St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Sherbrooke Library, Sherbrooke Village, Canso Historical Society, and the Liberal Party of Nova Scotia are also in this fonds, alongside a generous collection of material generated by the Lomas family themselves. There are records from the foreign service of Alton Anderson Lomas in the United States, Mexico, Belgium, and China, as well as his political work in Ontario and Nova Scotia. There is also an extensive record of the community service done by Al and Aleah Lomas, notably her work as librarian at the Sherbrooke Library, and several awards for volunteer service. In addition to the Lomas family material, this fonds holds genealogy research for many local families, notably the McKean/McKeen, Anderson, Henderson, Landesberg, and McLane families. There are photographs of local people and landscapes dating back to the 1870 opening of the first bridge over the St. Mary’s River at Sherbrooke, up to the 2005 wedding reception of Aleah Lomas Anderson and Murray Anderson, with an emphasis on the Anderson, Lomas, Palmer, and MacDonald families. The fonds also has audio and video recordings of interviews, speeches, and brief reports discussing topics of interest to the eastern shore of Nova Scotia.               Series forms part of the Ervin E. Webber fonds and consists of one “Notice to Ratepayers” addressed to Reuben H. Webber, one receipt for a subscription to the Halifax Evening Post in the name of Reuben Webber, one log scale perhaps used for work in the lumber trade, one handwritten record of cords of wood cut for Reuben Webber in 1930, and one Farmer’s Note Book belonging to Ervin Webber including notes and financial information.               Series is part of the Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of various articles and excerpts pertaining to different aspects of life and culture on the Eastern Shore including Musquodoboit Harbour, Petpeswick, and Ostrea Lake. Series includes recollections of life, events, and activities in the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and poems describing local scenes. Series includes an excerpt from the Evening Mail in 1922 containing stories of the Greenoughs of Petpeswick and memories, recollections, facts, and stories from Musquodoboit Harbour, Ostrea Lake and Point Pleasant, both about places themselves and the people, including one mention of R.J. Stoddard. Articles included describe sealing adventures in which Eastern Shore residents participated, hijackers on the Old Guysborough Road in the 1890s, and the history of the Ritcey family. There is also a copy of a poem about Petpeswick Harbour written by Verna MacDonald and an excerpt of an article describing the buildings that used to make up the village centre of Musquodoboit Harbour as well as an article about Robsons who moved from Clam Harbour to Estmere in Cape Breton and lived there from 1901 to 1909.               Part of Katherine L. Stoddard family fonds
              Series forms part of the Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of genealogical research and records pertaining to various Eastern Shore families. The families who feature most prominently are the Stoddards and Ritceys (Henrici), however, the Shellnut, Eisan, Anderson, Siteman, Gaetz (Gates), Newcomb, Bayers, Robson, MacEachern, Blaxland. Records appear primarily the result of research conducted by Katherine Stoddard, however, some records note that documents were copied by Annabel Siteman Ells and may have been intended for Katherine’s mother, Eva, who may also have conducted genealogical research. Series also includes an incomplete copy of A Brief History of the Stoddards of Halifax County written by Elsie Florence Stoddard. Records include information on many pioneer families on the Eastern Shore, including the families of Thomas Stoddard, Leonard and Martin Gaetz, and Henry Seidman (Seidemann) as well as information on the origins of the Ritcey family beginning with Johannis Christophorus Henrici. Records include handwritten information, copies of information from various sources including vital statistics and newspapers, and books in which Katherine Stoddard recorded information about her own family, one of which features a drawing of a map that shows various landowners around Clam Harbour and Owl’s Head.
