Purchased in England as gift for R.H. Graham Mitchell, Ottawa, who donated it to Halifax in 2016.

Scope and content

Item consists of a perspective birds-eye view map, not drawn to scale, of the peninsula of Halifax, as well as the western shore of the Northwest Arm. Shows streets, buildings, wharves and natural features. A numbered index identifies buildings.

Physical condition

Three vertical stripes of staining appears to be from gaps between the 4 wooden boards that were the direct backing against the map. Other stains are in spots where there were holes from knots in the wooden back-boards. A repaired tear on lower right side.

Removed from wood-backed frame when acquired in 2016. Reframed under archival-grade glass lifted from surface, 2016. Hung in Lobby Oct. 2016 Do not hang for more than 6 months at a time.
