              Part of Katherine L. Stoddard family fonds
              Series is part of the Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists of various articles and excerpts pertaining to different aspects of life and culture on the Eastern Shore including Musquodoboit Harbour, Petpeswick, and Ostrea Lake. Series includes recollections of life, events, and activities in the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and poems describing local scenes. Series includes an excerpt from the Evening Mail in 1922 containing stories of the Greenoughs of Petpeswick and memories, recollections, facts, and stories from Musquodoboit Harbour, Ostrea Lake and Point Pleasant, both about places themselves and the people, including one mention of R.J. Stoddard. Articles included describe sealing adventures in which Eastern Shore residents participated, hijackers on the Old Guysborough Road in the 1890s, and the history of the Ritcey family. There is also a copy of a poem about Petpeswick Harbour written by Verna MacDonald and an excerpt of an article describing the buildings that used to make up the village centre of Musquodoboit Harbour as well as an article about Robsons who moved from Clam Harbour to Estmere in Cape Breton and lived there from 1901 to 1909.               Collection consists of letters, genealogy research, obituaries, newspaper clippings, poetry, a scrapbook, and numerous photographs created, compiled, or accumulated by Margaret Ellsworth relating to the Fraser family of Waternish, Guysborough County and their descendants living throughout Canada and the United States. Also included are materials relating to the MacIntosh family of Sherbrooke and the Giffin family of Isaac's Harbour, Guysborough County. Photographs range in date from the mid-19th century to the late 1980s, and include studio portraits, candid family and community snapshots, as well as landscape images of the St. Mary's River valley and Isaac's Harbour areas. 2016.001

              Series forms part of the Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds and consists of excerpts and clippings from various newspapers including the Family Herald, notes from Pictou County newspapers, and stories taken from various magazines. The majority of the clippings and notes refer to various Eastern Shore families but also include clippings about locations like Halifax and Dartmouth as well as schools, poems, recipes, church and local history, and notes on vessels that shipped along the Eastern Shore. Also includes vital records. In addition, series contains a German pamphlet from 1923 entitled Das Hakenkreuz, a copy of the statement of Fred Gerhardt regarding the destruction of the Potentate by German submarine in 1918, petitions, and correspondence including one love letter to a young Annabel from Dewey McElmon in 1915 which still contains a lock of hair.               Consists of two handmade and handwritten books entitled, The Owlet and The Work of the Owl, which were created by the students of the Owl’s Head Harbour School. The Owlet was a magazine that the students created for exhibition in Halifax with the help of their teacher. Associated editors of The Owlet are listed as being Una Palmer, Reta Palmer, and Helen Parker. It features poems, horoscopes, essays, a school prophecy, jokes, drawings including the school and its floor plan, a list of pupils, and lists of improvements made to the school in the year 1932-1933. Some of the essays in this book relate to work and life in Owls Head and include an essay on sheep farming and the breed of sheep used. The Work of the Owl is a yearbook created by the students of the Owl’s Head Harbour School. It includes the school yell, school song, songs learned during year, animated map of Owl’s Head, poetry and prose about various topics, horoscopes, humor, and drawings. Accession number 2013.005

              Part of Grace (Williams) Forsythe fonds
              Series consists of publications produced by the Marine Highway Historical Society between 1977 and 1985. Grace Forsythe was the treasurer of the Marine Highway Historical Society, contributed to the production of these publications, and in later issues served as editor along with Helen Jennex. Publications in this series include two volumes of verses compiled by Reuben George, an unbound copy of Reminiscence (1976) given to Ada Williams by Helen Jennex, Rambling Memories (1977), Forget- Me-Not Reflections (1978), Backward Glances (1979), Children’s Thoughts (1980), Around the Harbour (1981 with 1983,1988 updates), One Day at a Time (1982), Along the Shore (1982), Eight Years of Marine Whispers (1983), The Gull’s Cry (1984), Bygone Snippets (1984) and Marine Whispers (1985). Series also contains a preliminary copy of a book entitled Memory Verses (1984).Also included are loose pages of publication layouts featuring collages of advertisements, letterheads, and other memorabilia.
