A number of posters refer to United Nations initiatives, including International Women’s Day, the Second Special Session on Disarmament (1982), the International Year of Peace (1986), and World Environment Day.               Collection consists of posters and pinback buttons accrued by peace activist Betty Peterson. Materials mainly pertain to protests, speaking events, organizations, and film screenings for social justice causes including nuclear disarmament, environmental conservation, Indigenous activism, women’s rights, and anti-war movements. Collection includes the shirt Betty Peterson wore to a nuclear disarmament rally in New York City in 1982 with buttons attached to it, as well as a cloth banner with the words "Voice of Women Canada" sewn on it, also with buttons attached. Some materials pertain to the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), and collection also contains various posters of paintings and art calendars.               Series consists of buttons related to various organizations and events advocating for social justice and peace causes, including nuclear disarmament, Indigenous rights and land claims, environmental conservation, women’s rights, anti-apartheid in South Africa, and anti-U.S. intervention in Latin America, especially in Nicaragua and El Salvador. Series also includes anti-war buttons, predominantly in reference to the Gulf War (1991). Some buttons refer to political parties, in particular the New Democratic Party (NDP) and the African National Congress (ANC).
