              Series · 1972-1983, predominant 1975-1981
Part of Association for Preservation of the Eastern Shore fonds
Series forms part of Association for Preservation of the Eastern Shore fonds and consists of records related to the Association’s activities after the abandonment of the Ship Harbour National Park proposal in late 1973. After this time, the Association shifted its focus to monitoring, advocating and lobbying government officials on a number of issues of concern to Eastern Shore residents. Among these were environmental issues, including pesticide spraying and illegal dumping; safety and law enforcement issues, including speeding and unsafe driving on and around Clam Harbour Beach; and the promotion of local residents’ interests, including concerns about the hiring practices of the Nova Scotia Job Corps programme. The National Park proposal’s provincial successor, the Eastern Shore Seaside Park System, was also of concern to the Association, and it spent some energy advocating for local involvement in its planning (including supporting the Park’s Citizen’s Representative Committee), and later lobbying for the Park’s speedy completion. Series contains correspondence, meeting minutes, notes, clippings, newsletters, reports, briefs, resolutions, articles, membership lists, membership cards, petitions, posters, and other material. Series includes a 1980 government publication about the Eastern Shore Seaside Park System.
