              Fonds contains textual records relating to the history of the activities of the Dalhousie University English Department and to Bevan's academic activities. The fonds consist of research notes generated during Bevan's study of Dryden's literature; academic and departmental correspondence and documentation created while Bevan was head of the English department and afterwards; documents and correspondence relating to operations at the Dalhousie Review from 1972-1980; fiction and other writings; material pertaining to courses he taught from 1949 to 1976; and various undated papers written by his students.               The fonds consists of records accumulated by Annabel (Siteman) Ells during the course of her research on the area of Ship Harbour and the families who lived there as well as personal records created and accumulated throughout her lifetime. The fonds includes a wide variety of records such as land related documents, wills, Loyalist petitions, census information, court papers, church registers and vital statistics including marriage, birth, and death records; school papers, genealogies, clippings and notes taken from various newspapers and periodicals, photographs and negatives, correspondence, postcards, and diaries.               Fonds consists of records of the Chezzetcook Historical Society and its members. Textual records were created between about 1900- 1930, 1950- 1955, 1965, and 1974- 2008, but the majority date to between 1974 and 2004.               Series forms part of the Chezzetcook Historical Society fonds and consists of records relating to research undertaken by Society members on topics such the history of local towns, institutions, and businesses (e.g. schools, churches, hotels, telephone companies); activities (e.g. gold mining, road and bridge-building), Acadian history, notable events (e.g. shipwrecks), and folklore. Series contains notes, essays, lecture and speech notes, interview notes and transcripts, copies and transcripts of historical documents (e.g. registers, legal documents, correspondence, deeds), articles and other publications, clippings, term papers, copies of personal scrapbooks, correspondence, and other material. Series also contains questionnaire forms, notes and a brief, handwritten report relating to a survey undertaken in 1975 by Society members in order to identify sources of historical information among the local populace; folklore, and historical artifacts. Also included are some original documents such as a notebook containing a record of government-funded research experiments conducted between 1950 and 1955 at the Chezzetcook Harbour government reserve clam flats; a handwritten document describing how to tan and dye sheepskin, and an annotated copy of the Education Act revised to 1930 which once belonged to the Seaforth School.
