              Fonds consists of approximately 137 hours of oral history interviews conducted by Lena Ferguson. Most interviewees were residents of the Eastern Shore region of Halifax County, particularly the Chezzetcook area. Interview topics include genealogy, local industries, occupations, music, shipping, community life, traditions, and folklore. In addition to interviews, the creator recorded school reunions, concerts, weddings, and church anniversaries. Several paper transcripts are included as well as scrapbooks featuring articles written by Lena and other newspaper articles regarding the Chezzetcook area. 2019.014

Textual records were created between about 1900- 1930, 1950- 1955, 1965, and 1974- 2008, but the majority date to between 1974 and 2004.               Series forms part of W. Hugh Conrod fonds and consists of records likely related to research undertaken by Conrod on the road now known as Nova Scotia Highway 7. The research was likely related to a display of photographs which Conrod put on at the Dartmouth Heritage Museum circa 1967. The photographs were possibly taken along the Highway 7 route. Series includes a copy of the Nova Scotia Highways Statutes of 1920, a photocopied excerpt from James E. Rutledge’s 1954 book “Sheet Harbour: A Local History,” and a sheet of typewritten notes referring to a stage coach route. 2010.005

              Series forms part of the Eastern Shore Board of Trade, District 19 fonds and consists of records of the financial transactions of the board, including receipts, financial statements and other material. Series also includes a ledger book listing names of board members and payment of membership dues. In addition, series includes a legal document related to the board’s purchase of a property in Lake Charlotte to be used as a recreation center. Series also includes drafts of a petition, a resolution, and a list of signers related to requests for road and bridge repairs. Accession number: 2009.037

              Series forms part of the Eastern Shore Board of Trade, District 19 fonds and consists of correspondence of the board and its members. Included is correspondence with government officials related to requests for speed zones on Highway 7, the demolition of a derelict wharf in Oyster Pond, the construction of a jetty in DeBaie's Cove, improvement of snow removal services, general road improvements and repairs, and the creation of an RCMP detachment in Lake Charlotte. Series also includes correspondence related to tourism promotion, banquets and other events which the board hosted or participated in, as well as correspondence with other organizations in which the board held membership including the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Maritime Provinces Board of Trade, and the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.               Series forms part of the Eastern Shore Archives map collection and consists of one map of Nova Scotia indicating motor roads and recreational resources. Inshore and lake fishing areas are marked, as well as game areas for moose, deer and bear. Also includes a 1909 copy of a 1903 map of Tangiers Lumber and Halifax Co., NS, surveyed by H. W. Andrews. The map was applied for by Alfred Dickie in 1903 and shows land grants and Crown lands in the Tangiers area and features names of property holders and the amount of acreage owned. A lumber mill as erected by the Tangier River sometime around the turn of the twentieth century by Rufus E. Dickie of Stewiacke, son of Alfred Dickie.
