              Collection consists of diverse records pertaining to schools and schooling within the Municipality of the District of St. Mary's, accumulated by the St. Mary's Genealogy Research Centre at Sherbrooke Village. Included are record books summarizing free school books issued to pupils within St. Mary's Municipal School Board sections including Caledonia, Upper Caledonia, Sherbrooke, Stillwater, and Port Hilford; school tax rolls; teachers agreements; school registers and attendance records; secretary record books; correspondence; meeting minutes; reports and periodicals; one book describing the boundaries of school sections within the Municipality of the District of St. Mary's; one Guysborough County District School Board Policy Manual (ca. 1980s). Some items are photocopies.               Consists of records created and accumulated by Grace Edith Forsythe primarily during her career as an educator and as a result of her involvement with the Marine Highway Historical Society, including records related to her teaching career, photographs, and material related to local history. Also included are publications produced by the Marine Highway Historical Society as well as layouts and preliminary copies. Contents also include scrapbooks, correspondence, advertisements, recipes, and material related to the Red Cross Society. In addition, fonds includes records acquired by Grace Forsythe and related to her aunt and uncle Cora (Harpell) and Sandy Myers, who owned the Salmon River House and with whom Grace lived for a time.               Part of Pleasant Point School trustees fonds
              Series forms part of the Pleasant Point School trustees fonds and consists of financial records including Municipality of Halifax taxation lists for Pleasant Point School section 79 from 1911 to 1928, tax assessment rolls from 1939 to 1948, and tax collectors’ rolls from 1897 to 1901 and 1906 to 1908. Also included are tax collectors’ rolls for school section 79 to Secretary to the trustees John Hawkins from 1915 to 1922, Howard Williams 1923, and Samuel D. Kent from 1927 to 1935. Series also consists of receipts for teachers’ salaries from 1918 to 1939 as well as school maintenance receipts and receipts for supplies, work done to the school, etc. from 1945 to 1946. In addition, series consists of memorandums concerning the amount of County School Funds to which the school section is entitled from 1897 to 1937. Accession number 2013.022

              Series forms part of the Pleasant Point School trustees fonds and consists of correspondence sent to school trustees and includes a letter regarding financial and census returns, a letter to Mrs. H. M. Williams from the Deputy Registrar General dated 1957, a letter to the trustees from the Assistant Superintendent of Education from 1932, and a letter to the Secretary of the Board of Trustees from the Provincial Supervisor of Attendance dated 1932.               Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds

              The fonds consists of records accumulated by Annabel (Siteman) Ells during the course of her research on the area of Ship Harbour and the families who lived there as well as personal records created and accumulated throughout her lifetime. The fonds includes a wide variety of records such as land related documents, wills, Loyalist petitions, census information, court papers, church registers and vital statistics including marriage, birth, and death records; school papers, genealogies, clippings and notes taken from various newspapers and periodicals, photographs and negatives, correspondence, postcards, and diaries.               Series forms part of the Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds and consists of correspondence regarding the establishment of a school at Ship Harbour, school trustee documents, school returns and registers for Ship Harbour school. Also includes correspondence from Clam Harbour school section, a memorial of the inhabitants of Egmont Harbour, Jeddore regarding the establishment of a school and church and aid to support a teacher. Also consists of school papers from Pictou County, particularly Toney River, and other school records gathered by Annabel Ells during the course of her research. In addition, series includes original high school certificates, teacher’s licenses and diplomas of Annabel Siteman as well as examination papers for various clerk positions.               Item consists of a treasurer's book of the Home & School Association of Jeddore Oyster Pond, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, covering the period from 1943 to 1958. Recorded in the book are receipts from the Association’s various income sources, as well as expenses for its various programs and events. Also included in the expenses are “equalization” fees which may have been intended for other affiliated home & school associations, and sums for the purchase or rental of a Gestetner copying machine.
