              Fonds consists of approximately 137 hours of oral history interviews conducted by Lena Ferguson. Most interviewees were residents of the Eastern Shore region of Halifax County, particularly the Chezzetcook area. Interview topics include genealogy, local industries, occupations, music, shipping, community life, traditions, and folklore. In addition to interviews, the creator recorded school reunions, concerts, weddings, and church anniversaries. Several paper transcripts are included as well as scrapbooks featuring articles written by Lena and other newspaper articles regarding the Chezzetcook area. 2019.014

The audio clip features Mr. Lapierre discussing his experience working on the schooner, the Village Leaf, as a young boy of fourteen. They sailed from the Chezzetcook area to the fishing grounds off the Magdalen Islands. 2019.014

              Series forms part of the Ivan R. Kent family fonds and consists of records created and accumulated by members of the Kent family. Included is The History of Pioneer Settling on Kent Island written by E. M. Kent c. 1936 as told to her by her father-in-law, Robert Lloyd Kent around the time of his death in 1896. E. M. Kent was Elizabeth May (Thompson) who married Joseph G. Kent, son of Robert Lloyd Kent and nephew of John Kent. The manuscript was given to Mrs. Phebe G. Kent by E. M. Kent. The series also contains a copy of the autobiography of Captain W. Gerald Kent, given to Ivan and Mildred Kent by W. Gerald Kent. William Gerald ‘Cappy’ Kent was born in 1903 and was the son of Horace Arthur Kent, who was the nephew of Joseph G. and Elizabeth M. Kent. William Gerald was a WWII, Royal Canadian Navy veteran, was married to Carmen Hubley, and died in 1995. Also included are loose photocopies of newspaper clippings related to members of the Kent family and other Eastern Shore families.
