    Administrative history

    The first local division of the Sons of Temperance in Nova Scotia was established in 1847 at Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. In 1848 the Grand Division of the Sons of Temperance was organized in Nova Scotia, by which time 13 local divisions had been established. The organization was founded mainly to educate the public on the benefits of abstinence from alcohol and worked toward social reform via prohibition. The Temple Division of the Sons of Temperance, division no. 131, was established at Wallace Bay, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia circa 1860. The organization disbanded in the 1950s.

    Fonds consists of 10 minute books, constitution, 1 financial scribe's book, blank membership forms and membership book. Minutes include records of meetings, membership lists and dues and financial records. Occasionally correspondence has been interfiled within the books. Also included are the Nova Scotia year books (1889, 1899, 1903), national publications such as by-laws, procedures and song books.
