Biographical history

Terry Ryan is known to have worked as the National Film Board of Canada's (NFB) Atlantic Distribution Chief in the mid 1980s. He is also a screenwriter, director, producer, and entrepreneur. His film credits include producing Co-op (1991), Five Transformations (1991), Four Stories of Tuktu (1991), Three Stories for Young People (1991); co-writing the screenplay for Bayo (1984); directing The Media Between Us (1969); and Sail Away (1977). In the early 1990s he also designed a one-handed keyboard which he had patented.

Custodial history

The archives received this fonds from Terry Ryan in four accessions. Most of the materials were donated in 1987 in three accessions; the records pertaining to Ryan’s keyboard patent were accessioned in 1998.

Scope and content

This fonds consists primarily of documents related to the production of the movie Bayo , an adaptation of the book Lightly by Chipman Hall. The fonds includes manuscripts, scripts, contracts, memos, correspondence, newspaper clippings, a copy of the movie on videocassette, and photographs. The fonds also contains two poems composed by Ryan as well as some documents related to his development of a one-handed computer keyboard.
