    Biographical history

William B. Perkins was born in 1812 at Annapolis Royal, N.S., the son of Rev. Cyrus (Peck) and Mary Perkins. William became a hotel proprietor at Annapolis Royal and married Mary Woodbury. The couple had one at least one son, Cyrus Alexander, born in 1837. William died at Annapolis Royal in 1892. Cyrus married Emma Jane Turner (1849-1923) and the couple had five children: Cyrus A., William B., Charlotte, Caroline, and another daughter (name unknown). Cyrus A. purchased and operated the Hillsdale House, a hotel, at Annapolis Royal. Charlotte continued to reside at Annapolis Royal and became very interested in local history. She was the author of The Romance of Old Annapolis Royal. Charlotte died in 1964.

    Custodial history

Some material was left in the Hillsdale House when Dr. Lawrence purchased the house in the 1970's. This material was donated by Ian Lawrence, son of Dr. Lawrence in 1992 (Accession 93.654). The scrapbook (Accession 93.656) was transferred to HRS from Fort Anne National Historic Park and attributed to the Perkins Family fonds because of internal evidence.

    Scope and content

Fonds consists of family scrapbook; Perkins family business records; records of the Caroline Perkins Estate; legal records related to Hillsdale House; document related to mining; personal papers; and records of Charlotte Perkins.
