    Biographical history

    William Rogers was born 28 January 1811 to Benjamin and Deborah Rogers. He married a woman named Chloe and was a successful merchant and ship owner, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. William died in 1875. Following his death, his shares in several locally built vessels were transferred to his wife.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of an account book for the ship Chloe, which was built at Shelburne in 1872 by William J. Kelley. Rogers was principal share owner in conjunction with other Yarmouth merchants. The vessel was sold in 1876. Also included is the account book for the ship William and the brigantine W.A. Rogers, both of which Rogers was principal share owner. The William was built at Tusket in 1873 by George Ross. The W.A. Rogers was built circa 1863 and engaged in trading missions around the world.
