Documents include original wills, petitions for probate or administration, oaths taken and bonds furnished by executors or administrators, records of decisions made by the registrar of probate, valuations and inventories of estates, and accounts furnished at the estates' closing showing financial transactions of the estate. Petitions for probate or administration generally give the place and date of death. All documents do not exist for all estates. The files prior to 1900 were filmed in 1970 on 35 mm. positive image film. The files subsequent to 1900 were filmed in 1992 on 16 mm. negative image film. The files are arranged in chronological order with each surname starting with a common letter being found in a group. — Title derived from microfilm lead cards — Microfilm 20418 is a listing of the estate files in the order in which they are filmed.

              Collection consists of copies of a deed, a will, and a property record related to people and places along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, accumulated by the Eastern Shore Archives. Records were created in 1982. Collection includes the 1883 will of Isaac Webber Sr. of Lakeville, an 1878 deed recording Isaac Webber’s purchase from Charlotte Garrott and Eve Parker of a parcel of land in Lakeville, and an 1850 document recording Isaac Webber’s purchase of a parcel of land between Ship Harbour and Clam Harbour.               Blaikie Family Collection

              The collection contains textual records and photographs that demonstrate the activities of several members of the Blaikie Family of Great Village, NS, for almost a century from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Items were arranged into series by the archivist based on record type or content, including: letters; insurance policies for various properties in Great Village; payment agreements; Estate of Melinda (Gould) Blaikie; bills; land deeds; John Wier contracts; World War I correspondence, mostly between Joseph McKay Blaikie and Blanche Johnson; ledgers; documents related to the shipbuilding and shipping industries, focusing on “The Peerless”, “Chieftain”, and “The President”. The fonds also contains assorted items related to community organizations and happenings in Great Village, NS, including: day books for Ezra Layton’s store; Iron Age Division of the Sons of Temperance; dyke books; play bills; Corinthians Lodge; war rations books; Women’s Institute of Great Village; and a scrapbook. The photograph collection contains a large number of portraits, with most people identified as members of the Blaikie Family.
