              Laura F. Stoddard family fonds

              Fonds consists of correspondence written to Walter, Hannah, and Laura Stoddard as well as records related to churches and church societies and memorabilia related to the First World War that was found in the Stoddard Hotel. Fonds also contains financial records including insurance policies and tax receipts as well as post office records including ledgers of records of registered mail. Remaining records include permits, dance step instructions, quilt patterns, paintings by Harold Brownhill, a poem by Burns Marks, a label from E. Homan’s clam cannery, a brochure for a Camp Charlotte, a sign erected by the Cranberry Committee, and a business card and photograph of Judge F. M. Morson. Accession number 2013.010

Stoddard family fonds and contains one booklet from The Great-West Life Assurance Company that includes financial notes as well as a handwritten will whose author and beneficiaries are unknown. Series also includes one Halifax County tax receipt to Walter Stoddard from 1903, one life insurance policy for W. E. Stoddard from 1914 and one insurance policy renewal notice. Series also consists of one permit for transit from Halifax to Clam Harbour for the body of Florence Stoddard, sister of Laura Stoddard. Accession number: 2013.010

              Series forms part of the Helene Read fonds and consists of a land indenture dated August 8, 1799 in which possession of land in Clam Harbour is passed from Robert, Colin, and Patrick Campbell and their wives to Thomas Stoddard. Series also includes information concerning other land grants in Clam Harbour belonging to the Campbell and Stoddard families between 1765 to 1894 and 1945. Four maps are also included in the series and include plans dated 1956 showing the division of the estate of James Stoddard as per his will, a map of the lands of Ralph Stoddard dated 1970, and two maps showing the subdivision of Lot 1 lands owned by Douglas F. Stoddard dated 1963. In addition there is one map of the land belonging to Robert Sr., Duncan, and Robert Campbell as well as two pages of microfilm copies of the land grant document presumably for that piece of land c. 1760. All maps pertain to land in Clam Harbour. Series also contains copies of the wills of James Edward Stoddard, Thomas Stoddard, Adam Stoddard, Edmund Fanning Stoddard, and documents concerning the estate of Nancy Stoddard.               The fonds consists of records accumulated by Annabel (Siteman) Ells during the course of her research on the area of Ship Harbour and the families who lived there as well as personal records created and accumulated throughout her lifetime. The fonds includes a wide variety of records such as land related documents, wills, Loyalist petitions, census information, court papers, church registers and vital statistics including marriage, birth, and death records; school papers, genealogies, clippings and notes taken from various newspapers and periodicals, photographs and negatives, correspondence, postcards, and diaries. Collection includes the 1883 will of Isaac Webber Sr. of Lakeville, an 1878 deed recording Isaac Webber’s purchase from Charlotte Garrott and Eve Parker of a parcel of land in Lakeville, and an 1850 document recording Isaac Webber’s purchase of a parcel of land between Ship Harbour and Clam Harbour.
