              The collection contains textual records and photographs that demonstrate the activities of several members of the Blaikie Family of Great Village, NS, for almost a century from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Items were arranged into series by the archivist based on record type or content, including: letters; insurance policies for various properties in Great Village; payment agreements; Estate of Melinda (Gould) Blaikie; bills; land deeds; John Wier contracts; World War I correspondence, mostly between Joseph McKay Blaikie and Blanche Johnson; ledgers; documents related to the shipbuilding and shipping industries, focusing on “The Peerless”, “Chieftain”, and “The President”. The fonds also contains assorted items related to community organizations and happenings in Great Village, NS, including: day books for Ezra Layton’s store; Iron Age Division of the Sons of Temperance; dyke books; play bills; Corinthians Lodge; war rations books; Women’s Institute of Great Village; and a scrapbook. The photograph collection contains a large number of portraits, with most people identified as members of the Blaikie Family.               Part of Katherine L. Stoddard family fonds
              Series forms part of Katherine L. Stoddard fonds and consists primarily of letters written to Katherine Stoddard by various correspondents between 1978 and 1998, including Robert Ritcey, Robert Kim Stevens, and others. Most pertain to genealogy related to families along the Eastern Shore, however, some are also personal in nature. Series also contains two letters from the First World War addressed to Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Stoddard concerning their son Private F. T. Stoddard. There is also a note from the Mercantile Marine Office concerning the wages of Robert Stoddard and dated 1882. The series also contains letters to Katherine’s mother, Eva Stoddard, from Annabel (likely Annabel Siteman); a letter to Lena from a Ritcey, and a letter to Bob Stoddard from his brother Thomas dated 1927. Series also includes several letters written to and by Robert Ritcey concerning the development of Martinique Beach as a National Park, letters from the Department of Tourism and Culture, a letter from the Department of Education concerning a gift agreement for a donation to the Nova Scotia Museum, and a letter from the Church Conservancy of Nova Scotia.               Part of Annabel (Siteman) Ells fonds
              Series forms part of the Annabell (Sitman) Ells fonds and consists of correspondence with Mr. and Mrs. John O. Siteman, Hugh Fraser Siteman, and various other correspondents. Like many people in the early 1900s, Annabel collected postcards. The series includes a number of postcards depicting German soldiers and other German photographs written between 1910 and 1920 and predominantly written in German. Series also contains a large number of postcards sent to and from Annabel Ells from Boston, California, Scotland and other locations as well as other miscellaneous letters and cards from various individuals including correspondence with clients for whom Annabel was conducting research and responses from people to whom she had made genealogical inquiries. Also includes a list of the negatives held by NSARM and a piece of the wedding dress of John Siteman’s first wife Susan which was found in an envelope addressed to him in the Magdalene Islands a year after their marriage.               Part of Laura F. Stoddard family fonds
              Series forms part of Laura F. Stoddard family fonds and consists of eleven postcards, a Christmas card, and several notes to Hannah, Walter, and Laura Stoddard from various correspondents and from all over the world including Italy, the United States, and Britain. Series also contains ten letters to Walter and Hannah Stoddard from Reverend James Anderson including nine prayer cards. In addition there are two military Christmas cards from 1918 to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stoddard including one from a Private Duncan near [Brussels] and one from France from N. Webber of the Canadian Forestry Corps, 70th Co. Overseas. There is also one letter to Mrs. Hannah Stoddard from the Imperial War Graves Commission dated 1923 concerning the erection of a headstone, correspondence to Hannah Stoddard from the Treasury Department, Bureau of War Risk Insurance concerning the life insurance of Frank Cecil Stoddard who was enlisted in the US army; and a wreath order form and card sent to Mrs. W. E. Stoddard from the War Graves Commission. Series also includes a number of birth and wedding announcements as well as a letter to Walter Stoddard from his brother Dr. T. A. Stoddard discussing the purchase of land to establish a muskrat, mink, and fox fur farm. There is also a booklet on raising muskrats, which is referenced in the letter. Accession number: 2013.010

              The fonds consists of records, ledgers and photographs that document the lives of the family of George R. Smith. Records are arranged into series based on content or record type, including: letters from Raymond Smith during World War I; letters from Ernest Smith during World War I; letters from Lloyd Smith during World War I; letters from other Smith family members; "Londonderry Letter" by Lloyd Smith; and account books of George R. Smith. Photographs and negatives are housed separately and demonstrate some of the activities of the members of the Smith family; most photographs are portraits of unidentified people that are arranged by photographer, demonstrating the activities of North American photographers from the 1850s - 1940s. There are also a significant number of photographs of the Smith sons during World War I; Florine Smith's trip to Europe; and portraits addressed to Florine Smith from classmates at the Halifax Ladies College.               Fonds consists of a considerable number of letters from Robert Ryan to his family while serving over-seas. Fonds also consists of James Ryan's militia records, business records, personal correspondence and financial records; Mary Josephine's correspondence; records regarding Walter Ryan's militia career, business records, personal records, and articles written by Walter. Fonds also contains family photographs, newspaper clippings regarding Walter and his father James, documents regarding James' career as mayor and town councillor, records and photographs of the Kings Troops Calvary (militia), and business correspondence. The majority of the correspondence is photocopies, however there are some original documents created from 1835-1985.

The records all relate to her time abroad during World War I with the British Expeditionary Force and the Red Cross.
